Webinar: Swimming Technique and Becoming a Faster Triathlon Swimmer
Team,
On Wednesday, February 17th I'll conduct a mid-day webinar on Swimming Technique and Becoming a Faster Triathlon Swimming.
During the webinar I'll discuss and explain:
- The elements of proper swimming technique and the drills to learn them.
- The role of fitness and strength in swimming
- Race day considerations such as drafting, sighting, stroke rate, etc
- Anything else you want to discuss.
Please post any comments or questions you have in this thread, so I can be prepared to cover these during the webinar.
As always, the webinar will be recorded and made available for download by EN members.

Looking forward to the webinar! I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on building swim fitness vs. technique. More specifically, on longer sets with less rest i find myself slowing down and having to really focus to maintain form. I often have a mental debate about is it better to keep pushing and live with a little stroke deterioration as i improve my ability to hold form when fatigued or is it better to take more rest breaks which allows me to hold better form. I have been doing the former most recently with my reasoning being there are no breaks when racing so you better be able to hold some semblance of form when fatigued and the only way to develop that ability is longer sets with shorter rest breaks. Not sure if this reasoning is sound or not, but would like to hear your opinion.
Would love to hear an extended dialogue concerning swim technique centered around a realistic timeline required to maintain an improved swim technique over longer and longer distances.
I've connected with a local swim resource here in DXB that has drastically improved my swim technique. I feel near effortless over 25m when not fatigued; 50m is a stretch as my form deteriorates the last 10m. This has forced my swim workouts to be quite limited in variety!
Given my abbreviated push for IMSA, I have had to switch focus from carrying my technique longer and longer distances to swim fitness and swim with what I have.
I am a member of adult onset swimming anonymous. I have read and listened to the guidance here about swimming at the pace, distance, recovery which allows me to maintain form as many times is possible. But what does that look like for someone like me. Do I get a warm up then perform 20 x 25m x 4?
Also, would love to discuss the best path to improve my swimming after my season ends with IMSA in April. EX: should I include 1 or 2 x 30 minute form session(s) during my recover/downtime (summer here) (17.5m pool < 5' walk downstairs); then at some point early during/before the outseason work include a swim earlier which focuses on maintaing that form if there is no admin cost?
EN Swim Guru Mike Roberts also talks much about stretching routines. Add ideas?
That's easy...don't swim with a band and no pull buoy?? Seriously. The most hardcore I'll do is a pull buoy with band but I don't use paddles. I'll talk pool toys in the webinar, adding it to my notes.
Look forward to listening to the seminar when it's up.
Hey Folks,
Sorry for the delay, I had to do a little hard drive forensics so resurrect this. Please download the webinar here.
