WKO 4

Hey Peeps

Just got an email from Training Peaks to say the WKO4 for PCs has been released.

I have used WKO3 for many years and am quite happy with its capabilities.

My question is this, do I need WKO4?

  • Ive been using the Mac version simce it came out ...?last August. Prior, I used WKO 3 on a PC. 4 is way mpre powerful-you can essentially slice and dice your data any way you like. But that is the major drawback as well, since there is really not much in the way of an instruction manual. I had to figure out kind of by trial and error how to get *precisely* the reports I wanted, mainly by studying the creations of others ,of which there are a gazillion. If someone else thinks just like you, great. But if you want to see your own special data package, it reminded me of trying to figure out how to use the CompuTrainer in just the way I wanted. I''m glad I got it, but as an Adult Onset Computer User, it did not feel natural. Unlike, say, Trainer Road, which is a snap to figure out. But compared to GarminConnect, Strava, etc, it is very robust, rather than showing you just the reports they have already programmed in.

  • Been a long time WKO3 user and have been wanting and waiting for 4.0 since forever it seems. Me, I'm a data whore..... and while the upgrade looks like a monster to learn and figure out, I just gotta have it! Realistically I don't expect it will have any effect on my FTP or any other physical ability but it will give me many hours of ecstasy, drooling over my pathetic lack of bike power and running paces.

If you're super serious about dissecting power and pace looking for the top edge of you capabilities - absolutely get it. If you just love spending time messing with your data like me.... get it.
  • Personally, I'd wait for a few incremental versions before taking the leap.
My friend Ryan, who's one of the co-creators of BestBikeSplit (sold to Training Peaks), didn't even know they were releasing it yet!
  • Peter,

I'll eventually upgrade myself but as of yet I'm holding out.  There was one post in the dashboard about the PC versions not being a finished product.  Now I did not ask if that meant bugs or still some clean up.  I'm sure they are pushing this out there given the delay from the Mac version and overall the rewrite delays.

I guess I'm with Scott on this wait for a few iterations, especially if you are happy with version 3 you won't know what you are missing.  At some point I'll hopefully look in to it and when seriously I might ask for someone on the team to give a few screen captures or description of the new and cool things they can do.  I'll wait until I have a week off and can spend some time on how to use the software.

  • Thanks all for the advice.
    I think I'll wait.
Am just about to start my 10 week build for my A Race, IM Australia, so I probably shouldn't have the additional distraction of trying to learn how to use new software.
