Bike change question micro

I have been riding a 650cc bike for the last 9 yrs (QR) and am on the Jan OS. Have not had any issues with any of the bike workouts. This past Saturday I picked up my new QR 700c bike. I was fitted on a GURU system and the bike was assembled to the dimensions from the fit. On Sunday I rode the prescribed workout (I switched Sat and Sun workouts due to family situation) and had trouble holding my Z4 power and Z3 also felt more difficult. I thought I was just tired so today, I did the workout for Tuesday and could only hold 10 min at Z4 and then after 4 mins rest could only hold 5 mins Z4. Would there be a drastic change in power numbers from 650 to 700. The same power meter which was installed in the old bike is on the new (Power2max). Any ideas?

  • sorry to jump in there... but similar change here.

    address your fit!

I rode 650 for ages but wanted to change to new bike model and different power meter set up so went for my new felt ia4

fit is different.... also using short cranks may help...

do a 20 minute test in a similar setting as you might have done with your old bike

. my fit was very different

  • Thanks for the input Patricia. It really is a difft fit (old bike was my own fit image). But the fact that I am using the same power meter as my o,d bike but have such a gap has me concerned.
  • I am no expert but I believe it could be a couple of things. 1) Your body just needs time to get use to the new fit. This may take a couple of weeks. 2) if your new fit is substantially more aero (aggressive) it is possible to see a decrease in power, which should be made up for and then some (faster speed) with your improved aero position. I have been fitted by 3 different fitters over the years and in all cases it took me several rides to feel "comfortable" with the position and power numbers. Hope this helps.
  • Thanks Matt, t does help.
  • x10 to what Matt said. Assuming there's no changes to PM calibration with the switch (you should recalibrate if that's possible), the new bike fit will ABSOLUTELY change your power. Give it a few more weeks and just "adjust" your mindset. My road bike power is higher than my tri bike power, but I am SOOOOOOOOOO much faster on my tri bike...so lower power is no problem for my speed-hungry ego. But being inside you might not see that benefit right yet...give it time!
  • Sounds good Coach P. I will give it some time for me to adjust to the new fit
  • Would love to see a picture of the hot ride! image
