Pre-run test #2

Coach P,

Just watched the video podcast. Good insights there, but I have a few questions. Here is my run test #1 data on 1/6/16 (21:13 VDOT 46):

Mile 1: 6:43 @ HR 158, Mile 2: 6:52 @ HR 167, Mile 3; 6:58 @ HR 167, Last 0.1: 6:14 @ HR 175. For what it is worth, I left it on the track that day. I remember the painfully slow shuffle home...

Last few Sunday z4 repeats look like this: 7:01 @ 165, 6:55 @ 170, 7:10 @ 167, 7:04 @ 158

Q: My recent z4 miles have been slower than my TT #1 miles. This is due to making no adjustments to my z4 pacing over the first OS block. How to use those z4 miles to set a target for TT #2?

Q: Based on yesterday's  FTP test, I can (apparently) sustain a HR at 175-182 - this is a new thing for me, a little scary, but I suspect a better measure of my fitness than my time. Should I stop focusing on mile split times and rely on HR targets (ie keep it >170 for the TT)?

Q; Or, may I have permission to stop thinking about this and just run my a$$ off tomorrow?

Thank you,

DS

  • Run your ass off. HR numbers are no real guide for such a short test...but that "positive" split pacing is an issue...we want to get you dropping paces...so if you want to run 6:50s...do #1 at 7:00...then 6:50....then let it go....
