Mojo

So I'm in week 7 and have been struggling with the mojo. Like why am I doing this blah blah blah. I know I want to but its been a bit challenging to drag my butt outside.

So I've been reading this book by Mike Plant called Iron Will. its about the history of Ironman. its pretty motiviational. Its usually just what I need to get moving image If anyone hasn't read it they should.

I was hoping I could get some ideas from others on how they maintain their drive with work life and everything.. I'm still excited to race, but training excitement is a bit low image

  • We have all been there or will be there at one point or another. For me sometimes it takes hooking up with some relative newbies who are all gung ho and there mojo slides on over to you as they pepper  you with questions. Other times I look for something fun to do with my fitness maybe go mountain biking, or trail running with nothing set in mind other than to move the body.

Right now I can say watching the TOC and hearing from the peeps out there are doing it for me.

  • A good challenging workout can sometimes do it for me.  If I look at my schedule and I see a workout coming that looks like it will kick my ass, I will try to over achieve and kick it's.  If I am successful, that gets some spark back.  Keep it up, it will come man!!!

  • These EN training plans are the real deal - intense work, and sometimes putting us on the razor edge of stressing our body's long-term homeostatic mechanisms, not just  short term fueling needs or muscle overload. Lowered motivation for me at this stage is often a sign I need a full day or two OFF, to get a little recuperation going. Skipping a Friday and/or a Sunday for me is the best way to get in some rest while still doing all of the most critical workouts. I will be dong just that on Sunday, partly because I'm feeling a little cranky and out of sorts (another sign of over-reaching) and mostly because I am spending the day driving to Colorado.
