What is your advice on doing a HIM at the end of the OS instead of a Half-Marathon? My A race is Superfrog 70.3 in Sept. I have a B race in late June (Eagleman 70.3). I have a running background and feel good about how my run and bike training are progressing from the first 8 weeks of OS training. My OS ends the week of 4 April. I start the Advanced HIM plan the following week 11 April. The HIM is 18 April. I did the same HIM race last year. It sounds fun to do it again and it would give me a chance to practice the 4 keys and bike pacing to set up the run. I understand that I will go into the race with little or no swim training, and I am okay with that.  If I use this HIM race as a training opportunity to work on 4 keys pacing and nutrition etc - what impact does that have on the beginning of the HIM training schedule?

If you want to do well on the HIM on 4/18, I'd have you transition out of the OS now and into the HIM plan, setting it end on that race. Then I'd have you reset the EN*Half plan setting it to end on Eagleman.

If you don't really care about this race, then carry on with the TSR as is and just do this HIM as a training race.

However, personally, I don't think I've get much enjoyment from trying to race an HIM on OS fitness, especially not when I have ~6wks between now and the race to transition over to the HIM plan and build HIM fitness.

  • Thanks Rich. I don't care that much about the 4/18 race. I would use it as a training event and an opportunity to ride outside. I don't see a need to change the schedule before that race. I am interested in your insight on the impact of doing the 4/18 race as a training event while at the beginning of the HIM training plan. Would I put HIM training at risk?

Not an issue, just a good training day. Good luck!
