Hello Rich, hope you are doing well!  General question around planning my season.  At this point I have A race booked and the TSR works on that...Mt Tremblant 21st August.  I want to do a half however have not booked anything yet.  Do you have any suggestions on the "best" timing to do one?  I was thinking early-ish season.  I want to limit the travel so options are ones I can drive to which are:  Raleigh, NC (9 hour haul so not top of the list) - June 5th; Maryland June 12th; Syracuse June 19th; Muncie July 9th.  Would you advise for or against any of these?

In parallel, would like your thoughts around big weekends / possible training camps.  I have my eye on the one you mentioned in CA in July however not 100% sure I can swing the travel.  If I cannot....do you think the camp at Lake Placid on June 9th is a good option?  As alternative, was thinking about planning a big weekend (same plan as what you had us do last year at IMWI) up at Tremblant to get to know the course on my own.  If I cannot do CA with you...perhaps target that same weekend.  Pros / Cons of doing LP camp?  Timing of this one may swing the discussion on the first question.

Appreciate thoughts!

Thanks.

All of those in June are good, though I'd prefer you do earlier one(s) in June so you can race and then get back to IM training.

Patrick has raced IMMT, and qualified for Kona, so can talk to you at the camp about anything you need to know about the IMMT course. Just as I could talk to anyone at the camp about IMWI, AZ, CDA, etc. Timing of this one may swing the discussion on the first question.

    Appreciate thoughts!

    Thanks.

  • Thanks Rich, appreciate the thoughts....quick follow up:

Let's say I can swing the LP camp, which is on weekend of June 9th.  That leaves Raleigh on the 5th or Syracuse on the 19th.  Do you think that a race on the 19th, the following weekend is to much after doing the camp on the 9th.

Finally, how critical do you think it is to ride the IMMT course before the race?  I have done WI twice and actually rode the course before the race the first time around.  MT is a 10 hour drive so quite a hike so wonder how important you think it is to get there before race day.

    Thanks as always!

Depends on your goals for the HIM. If you want to have the best race you can, then Raleigh is better. If you "just want to race," and don't mind possibly having some residual fatigue from the camp, then Syracuse is better.

I don't have any direct experience with IMMT. Suggest you ask the team about whether it's important to have seen the course before, ie, is it a technical bike course like IMWI.

    Thanks as always!
