  • Hi Eagleman peeps! Turby and I are doing Eagleman 70.3 again this year. We've done it a bunch of times, and despite the inevitable heat and most likely non-wetsuit swim, we love this race! Cambridge is such a great town and we always have a fun time there. The bike course is fast and flat, but the run is no shade, but flat. We both won our AG there last year so we will see what happens now that we are not at the bottom of the AG:-) This is good training for Kona with non-wetsuit and heat! We are really looking forward to seeing all the ENers there and spending time with the Cronks:-)
  • Hello all, this will be my first time racing in Maryland and looking forward to it. I just booked my spot and find that many of the hotel are now fully booked.

If anyone has ideas on where to stay that's close and still available, please let me know. Convenience is key as we will have our 3 and 5 year olds as part as my cheering committee.

Carol - look forward to meeting!
  • The Choptank River has officially reached 77 degrees today:-(
  • Grrr... maybe I'll suck it up tomorrow and swim with my LG-M2 suit (full shoulders) with the ROKA swimskin over the top to see how that goes.... Other than cold that is...
  • @Carol - 2 swim Q's.... Do they separate wetsuit optional from non-wetsuit waves?.... Is there a practice swim Saturday?
  • @Tim - Yes, separate wetsuit optional, at the end. You can practice swim any time but not on the swim course (boats). There is an area just to the left. They will have it marked. I'm going to text Heather as to your plans:-)
  • Carol, thanks for the info. I have been looking at the weather and the report is showing cooler water temps so I have been fooled! I font have a swim skin as I have never raced without a wetsuit!! Does anyone know if the expo will have some options? I know...no new gear on race day however think I would feel better if I had something.

Any other tips out there about the course? Never done it and looking forward!!
  • @Dawn The water temps should still be wetsuit optional . Expo's always have vendors with swimskins.
  • Dawn, looking forward to seeing you. The water temps were cooler this a.m., so you never know! I'm not counting on a wetsuit swim, because it rarely is lately. Also - the air temps are gonna hit 90 degrees so the most important thing about Eagleman is BE PREPARED for the heat! Make sure you are staying hydrated on the bike and pour some water over your head before T2. Use plenty of ice in the baggies at every water stop on the run. There is very little shade. The new course has a little bit more that it used to, but barely any! If the race is not wetsuit legal, you can either start in the last wave and wear a wetsuit, or get a swimskin beforehand. I will take a practice swim when we arrive on Friday in my swimskin since I haven't worn it since IMCHOO! The bike is flat as a pancake but can be windy. Just do your EN thing and watch your watts. Because it's so flat, it's sometimes hard to actually hit your target watts but you'll still be moving along. Last year I didn't hit my watts, but had a big PR on the bike! Go figure.
  • When is everyone arriving? Turby and I will arrive Friday afternoon and go for a short swim. Are we getting together on Saturday??? Should I try and arrange a lunch somewhere? Maybe I should check the race page! LOL
  • Tim/Carol, thanks for the comments and look forward to meeting.

On water conditions, if not wetsuit legal...not going to wear one but will be a new one for me. Will shop at the expo and see what they have for swim skins.

I have been under the weather for over a week now so in all reality it's more fun and practice on Sunday. It's been cool here this summer so will be an interesting one to get dropped into a heat wave. Agree Carol, need to plan/anticipate this and pace accordingly.

We are driving in from Ohio tomorrow so won't arrive until late. I will be with my husband and to little ones staying at the Hyatt.

    Where is everyone else?

    Dawn
  • My wife and I are staying at the Hyatt. We will arrive late morning/early afternoon today.
