Pedals
I currently have time clips but am wondering if I should switch to something that would make it easier to clip out of. My cyclocross bike has egg beaters and I have no problem swinging off the bike. On my race bike though, different answer: I'm too afraid that I get stuck and crash.
Any input on this subject would be great.
Thanks

In my experience you get used to whatever pedal system you're using. And in a race on a tri bike you'll clip in and out exactly one time each . That said, I've been riding Looks for 16-17yrs, see no reason to change
This is not what I use in races, but here;s a thought if a big priority is easy out and easy walk: Speedplay "Frogs" designed for Mtn Bike shoes are very easy to get in and out of, and when walking through transition, you have flat soled shoes instead of the clips which stick out of road shoes.
I use speedplays and I like them a lot. Easy to get in and out of and you can get and adapter to slide the pedal further back on the shoe. Of course said adapter makes it difficult to walk in.
I switched to the Shimano pedals a few years ago. I like the bigger platform vs. others.
All that said, I'm starting to use the PowerTap P1's and can easily envision a day where those are my pedals and PM for everything.
I just ordered a set of PowerTap P1 pedals as well, so will have to switch over when necessary.
Assuming that's the case, I'd figure out what your priorities are and just go with where that points you. If you want power in your pedals, you have an answer. If you want easier walking, you have an answer. If you want rotational float, you have an answer. :-)
We are creatures of habit and have a tendency to like what we are comfortable with. If the question is " what are the best pedal for ease of entry into/out of the cleat" then the answer trends towards speed play.
love speedplay light action. have been using for years.
but this season trying something different. Mountain bike shoes and pedals for ALL bikes. like you, Crank Egg Beaters. light mountain bike shoe - as light as my tri race shoes. like the versatility :::: running in transition - running into woods for poop - etc.
Was spinning with Tom Glynn this week and he is a long-time Speedplay guy. He recently got the Powertap P1 pedals that are very similar to Look and the Shimano's I posted below. His comments to me on the differences were that the Speedplay are easier to clip into as they are two sided. He also noted that he has to look down to clip into the P1 pedals as they are new to him. He says it's kind of frustrating.
I can safely say that I almost never look down when clipping in with my pedals and my wife always looks down when clipping into her Speedplays.
Tom is a true tri cyclist and his comments are something else to consider.
That's all. carry on.

It'll be overcoming 12+ years of Sppedplay use for me to get used to the P1 pedals, but this was my biggest concern about them.
I harp on people all the time about how much they look down when pushing away and trying to clip in. Guess I get to be "that guy" now too.
