  • Thanks for posting this Al.

I like the message in the last sentence! I was 54 when I fell off the couch and start triathlon training. I guess there is still hope for me to become a decent triathlete!

  • Good article, thanks for sharing. While I a ways off from my 60's, I'm still hammering myself regularly at age 48. Today in a 54' minute ride I was at an IF of 1.07 after the first 45'. Between this article and the one recently posted elsewhere about heart issues in pointy end endurance folks, I've definitely been thinking today about the long term benefits and potential consequences of high level endurance training as I age.

  • Interesting article. Thanks for the post, Al. Having just turned 55, I am interested in any news that will help me avoid assisted living in the future! Coach Rich's note about the other article on the effect of endurance training on the heart is a difficult one to balance with the training we do. Not sure what the answer to that balance is, other than regular physicals to assess individual physiology.
  • Great article Al, Thank you!

I use Perfect Amino and love them. It makes a difference.  Would love everyone's input.

  • I definitely think I have a lot fewer motor neurons than several decades ago. Right now, I'm just racing one year at a time as I feel the aging process slow me down. I'll be M60 next year and hope to stay in the sport for the first year of M65, then I will reassess whether I just want to workout or still compete. Meanwhile, I'm not paying any attention to the articles on heart issues, although I will retire from racing if I ever get A-fib.
