  • Exciting that this thread is up, that means the season is getting serious! This is my first time racing Quassy, though I've did Rev3 Maine (1/2 aquabike) 3 years ago and loved it so am expecting good things. And hills.

I'm using this race as a prep for IMLP. I'm a little nervous about the status of my season at the moment, I have chronic peroneal tendonitis that has flared up in my left foot so am currently doing my runs as aquajogs. Hoping to get back out on the road this week or next to start building up for this race and be in a good spot by July for the full. Fingers crossed.

Looking forward to lots of good discussions, training, and then racing with everyone here!

  • Wooohoo! This is my 7th year racing Quassy (all Oly except 2014 I raced the Half). I hate climbing so don't ask me why I do it! LOL By the way, for any local folks, I'm planning a ride on the Half course this Sunday 4/10 (weather permitting). Let me know if you are interested in joining.
  • I am also doing Quassy ( my 3rd x) in prep for IMLP( my 8th x) but this year I'm signed up for both the OLY and the Half. Looking forward to strong team showing. Eager to race the bike like an Oly then a half as opposed to being to conservative and riding like I was doing half of an IM ride. 9 weeks away is getting real.
  • My 3rd Quassy half, leading up to 3rd IMLP.  Goal for me is to put in a strong effort (hopefully resulting in better results than previous years). Then use the results as benchmark for effort/paces the following week at  EN LP camp. Quassy Half course is very similar in feel to IMLP so it's a great prep race. Also great to meet so many EN'ers there last year, great venue for hanging out before/after the race.

  • Last year I made Quassy my first half ever...after I did it people told me how challenging the course was!!  My friend called the course a "proper" triathlon course - his definition is clearly different than mine.

Looking forward to year #2 racing Quassy - this will be my warm up for my first full IM ay IMLP.

  • So this is my first Quassy. My 9th HIM (i think)... People make the course sound fun. image So i am still looking for a place to stay. Any recommendations?
  • Quassy #2 for me, HIM #7 but this will be my first stand-alone 70.3 so will be entirely different from any other done so far. The potential is there to do well but first I have to get there healthy.

Looks like a good crew already. Can't wait to see who else joins the fun!

JB - I'm at Hampton Inn Waterbury this year. Last year was at Courtyard Waterbury just over the river, cheaper but longer drive.
  • Howdy Team; jumping into the fray as I come out of the Jan OS. Looking forward to racing Quassy with so many folks I've followed through the years. Due to a function in SC on Friday night, I won't be arriving until later on Saturday ~ may even have to do packet pickup Sun morning. Nevertheless, hope I can bump into many of you throughout the time there.
  • And I'm staying at the Milestone...not too far out, I hope. I have reservations Fri-Mon, but won't show till Sat. Rolling by myself, so if someone wants to split some costs, let me know.
  • This will be my first Quassy Half and 5th half distance. I just completed JOS this week. The next 8 weeks will be interesting as I'm going to be out of town for 5 of the weekends. I'm looking forward to meeting and racing with everyone. I'm driving up Friday evening and staying at the Heritage Hotel.
  • Hello everyone, will be doing just Oly's this year due to time constraints. This will be my 2nd Quassy (1st Oly). Looking forward to it. Does anyone know the link to the google docs sign up sheet?
  • Hey Carlos
I thought there was an announcement that they did away with that this year. I think there will be more info soon.
  • Ok, so I'm thinking about deferring. Work has consumed my life and my training has been beyond subpar. I can finish the race however I'm not sure it makes sense to spend money on gas and hotel. When I say finish, it's going to to be beyond a train wreck and a very very sloppy. Thoughts and feedback? Please advice is needed
  • I usually ask myself two questions: How does this effect my other goals? and Will I have fun?
  • I will be seeing you all next year at Quassy. Thank you Robert. I answered those two questions and the answer came up Not good for future races and No i would not have fun. I would be in hell. So I am going to defer.
  • Jonathan- Good call! I did the same thing with a couple of bike races. So you're deferring a visit to hell to next year? LOL
  • Question for those racing Quassy as an LP tuneup--what are you doing as a taper, if anything? Below is what I'm thinking, but just curious!

  • Carole- You might want to ask Coach P in the micro and it will depend on your goals for the race. If it is just a training day, then little taper required. If you're trying to "race" or PR, then a more traditional taper might be in order.

PS Do you enter your EN training into TP? That's hardcore! image
  • Are we doing a team lunch on Saturday as we've done in past years?
  • Emails going out today Kim.
  • Add one more to your list if you can.  I'll be racing the half on Sunday.  Thanks!

  • My plan is to arrive in time to swim before the EN lunch meetup, aiming for Noon Saturday at transition if I can make it.

I'll be flying solo, staying at Hampton Inn. Cell: 207.356.5549

    Race plan is up:

  • Not sure how all this works, but I am also doing Quassy Half this coming Sunday. Not too savy with the website but thanks to Laura Becker she told me about this thread. Look forward to seeing folks there. I don't have an EN attire, but will be either sporting my mission Fitness or MMRF tri attire for this race. Need to get myself some EN gear before imlp!
