Need help on Uploading Garmin 910 to iphone

Ive been using a wahoo fitness key dongle on my iPhone to successfully upload workouts from my Garmin 910xt to iPhone while I'm away traveling, so I'm not forced to bring along a laptop. It's worked well for me over the last year or two. Recently, it stopped working and wahoo fitness app goes dark and Garmin 910 gets stuck on transferring data screen indefinitely. Tried reinstalling app, clearing data from watch, etc.

Anyone still using this technique have any ideas how I can fix. Yes, I know, I may be one of the last few who hasn't moved on to the Garmin 920 which would solve these issues! I'm traveling outside the country next week and would love to figure this out.

Thank you!

  • I had a 910Xt and now have the 920.  I have always had an iPhone during this time.

The 910 will not Bluetooth connect to your Garmin Connect iPhone app like the 920 can.  That is one of the nice upgrades you get when moving to the 920.

When I had the 910 I always used the Garmin USB dongle to upload to my PC/internet/Strava, etc....  Once uploaded I could see the information on my iPhone through those apps.....

  • Thanks SS, but maybe I should expand on my post. No problem uploading 910 to pc using Garmin USB insert. The issue I'm having is with the workaround of uploading the 910's data to my iPhone through ANT+ using a wahoo fitness key dongle that plugs into my iPhone (Without Bluetooth). Used to work, but not any longer.
  • Brad - I'm having the same problem. I always used my iPad (g2) and the wahoo key. That stopped working so I bought the lighting to 30 pin adaptor and tried that on my iPhone 6. No love. Sometimes it will find my 910 and connect but it has never transferred successfully. Most of the time it just crashes the whaoo app. I gave up and ordered a vivofit hr.

If you figure this out, please post a follow-up!
  • This is a shot in the dark as I'm not an iOS user, but this works awesomely great for me, an Android guy, and my 910xt. Check out Sport Tablet Uploader App, www.sportablet.com/mobile-garmin-uploader.html If you have a phone/tablet with an internal ANT+ chip and an ANT+ Forerunner, you don't need any cable or USB dongle to make the two talk. The app can simply use the internal chip. I'm not sure if this is only for Android or both systems.
  • I posted about this on DC Rainmaker and found some other people experiencing the same issue. http://www.dcrainmaker.com/2010/05/first-look-at-wahoo-fitness-ant-iphone.html

Looks like maybe we are SOL unless Ray gets involved or unless we can consolidate our interest and go back to Wahoo as a group.

I for one am waiting on the arrival of my new vivoactive HR, so this will be less of an issue for me any day now...
  • Derrek - iOS (iPhone, iPad), does not support ANT+. However, with the wahoo dongle, I can get the two to "talk". The issue seems to reside in a change that wahoo made in their app...my guess. It looks like I should consider a different operating system in my next tablet or phone. Thanks anyway!

Clark - yes, this was what I suspected. Aside from some conspiracy theories, im not sure why the change? Very frustrating. I was out of the country for a week and couldn't upload any workouts until I returned. I laugh about it, but it was like torture! At some point, I'll upgrade from the Garmin 910 to something that supports Bluetooth and the issue will be fixed. Thanks!
  • I found a work around and got it going! As suspected, the issue stemmed from the newer version of the wahoo fitness app. I contacted Wahoo and a nice person there showed me where I could find an old version of the app. Go to this link on your iOS device:

    https://rink.hockeyapp.net/apps/bbd250152c71a456fd435a5c58b6775b/app_versions/10?loading=false&secret=

Download the app - it's called Wahooligan. It's essentially a legacy version from last year that'll work with Garmin.
When you have it on your device, you'll have to go into settings - general - device management and approve the app since you're not getting it from the App Store. Then, you can open it and relink it with your Garmin.

I just tested it and it worked like a charm!!
