Adjusting Training Plan IM Lk Placid

Hi Rich, Ran the Boston Marathon this past Monday and suffered big time.  Was not a problem of nutrition, hydration, pacing, HR or temp (although others complained it was too hot but I never felt it).  Followed EN marathon plan to the letter and felt ready but felt tired at mile 8 and legs trashed by mile 15.  The last 6-8 mile was agonizing purely due to leg pain.  My quads hurt every stride as did my left knee.  It was not fatigue just pain.  Thinking running downhill from start was issue pounding my legs and I was aware this could happen and had trained running downhill.  During the race running up hill was more comfortable than running down. I was shaky and nauseous after completion I think from the cumulative effect of dealing with an hour of bad pain.   I swam this morning  (Wed) following the swim camp transition to full IM training.  I am having trouble walking and cannot run at all from leg pain/soreness/stiffness mainly quads.  Wondering if you have any recommendations about recovery and what to do with all the running in the plan.  By the way I did not have this problem last year after grandmas marathon (June 20) where I qualified for Boston.  Legs were ok and I ran 20 miles total the very next week.  The current experience is very different.  Thanks for your help  Rick Goullaud
