Thoughts on new Tri-Bike shoes?

I do not want to tell anyone how old my bike shoes are.  I have done some research, but would love others to chime in with their favorite models.  Thanks for the help - TG

  • Specialized S-Works Trivents! They are red, sexy, have a cool hinged heal that must save at least 0.03 seconds, oh...and they cost $$$$
  • Second the Specialized S-Works, and add the Specialized Road shoe, they feel like you're wearing a nice comfy slipper. I purchased both from eBay, NIB at a 33% off of sticker. This brings the cost down a notch to $$$.
  • x3 on the S-works. Got them per input from board and have not been disapointed
  • Haven't tried the Specialized Tri-vents, but my LBS has a bunch of stock that is 1-2 years old, selling for 50% off... if you know your size, or can try on somewhere.. happy to buy & ship for you, or connect you to them
  • I've used the Specialized Trivent Expert exclusively for training and racing for the past 3 years and really like them. I've rotated through a couple of pairs and they are really starting to stink now after being filled with sweat 3 mornings a week and countless gallons of urine running into them over 8 Ironmans... But I still keep wearing them. What bigger endorsement could I give than that?
  • Since 2000, I've been using Sidi T2 or T3 or whatever they are. On my third pair; only reason I bought #2 was to have a set at my home in CO, and only bought third pair cause one shoe was lost by transition volunteers @ IM Canada. IOW, they are indestructible. Light weight, only need to use one of the two reverse velcro closures.
  • This is going to be a thread that's not that helpful, in that there are lots of people happy with what they have. In that sense, I suggest that if you see things that sound good here, put them on your check-it-out list and then choose what fits the best. :-)

My family's experience is that Sidi's last forever and that 3 different brands of $125-150 shoes are fine when they start out but wear out a lot more quickly...whether it's the shoe structure itself or the velcro, or whatever.

I was very happy poking around until I found a sale on the Sidi shoes, and they may as well be less than a year old 5 years later. I think mine are T2...not certain.

Scott - is this still available? I am a size 42. Let me know; if so I will send money via paypal to you prior to anything.

  • All, I have shimano and have been happy. Probably not hottest on the market but they work. Am actually looking to replace mine so thread is interesting. On Sidi, I loved them but find they are just to narrow so watch fit depending on your foot shape. On the s-works trivent, don't see womens in same grade which is a shame. New however they have changed the color to black which is a shame.

Scott, not sure if they would fit ladies however would you mind connecting me to your LBS so I can ask a few questions?

  • I found a place to buy S-Works trivents online for $229. My LBS doesn't carry them so I have to guess on the size. I have a pair of 44 Specialized Expert road bike shoes that fit nicely. Do the trivents fit the same way, i.e. would I wear the same size?
