Leslie's Macro Forum questions

Hi Coach Rich,

I am about to head into week 13 of the Intermediate Half IM training plan. It says it is a bike focused week. I will arrive in Washington DC on Tuesday for a coaching convention. I will be pretty restricted on the biking for the week. Are their any adjustments I can make assuming I will have some time to swim and run?

Thank you,

Leslie

    Our guidance around travel is:

    1. Go a little heavy on the bike before your trip. IE, add 1x session to your cycling week, or add time to your existing bike workouts
    2. Then run frequently during your travel, as travel plans allow.

Then just pick up the schedule where you should be when you come back. That is, don't try to make up missed homework, etc.

    Good luck!

  • Hi Coach Rich, I have recently switched my plan to the EN*Full intermediate training plan. I have a couple of questions about the schedule with the races I have planned.
    1. I have the Newport Half Marathon on 6/4. The training plan has me doing a sweat test on the bike that I will not be able to do. How should I adjust the weekend to still be able to race the half like I want to?
    2. The plan has me doing a Race Rehearsal on IM Week 11. My issue is that I have the Coeur d'Alene 70.3 the next weekend. Should I be doing that race rehearsal?

I have missed a couple of big bike weekends so I want to be able to get in what I need while still being able to complete my races.
    Thank you,
    Leslie

  • Hi Rich,

You are correct. It isn't a Race Rehearsal but it is a long weekend with a 1hr swim, 4hr bike and 1 hr run. Is that ok to do the week before my 70.3?

    Thanks

    Hey Leslie,

Yep, you'll be fine. Good luck!

  • Hello,
I am two weeks out from the CDA 70.3. I am on the FIM Intermediate plan so the week of the 70.3 seems to be training as usual. The half isn't my A race but I would like to be rested enough to push it a little bit. What modifications, if any, should I take during my week 12? If I shouldn't modify, why not?
    Thank you,
    Leslie
