Has anybody raced the course before (pre Ironman branding)? How flat is the bike? Run? If you raced Silverman or St George-I gather much much flatter, right? Need an easy one for my first full

Vineman has about 4,000 feet of climbing, mostly rollers but one steeper climb as well.

Hey- the bike & swim courses are posted on the ironman website. If you are on Strava, you can also do a search for Vineman, last year's course is in there. Also, assume it's gonna be hot. There is a course recon ride on 6/11 with LBS if you are interested. Should be a fun test!

by the way, when I go on Strava, it only shows individual efforts... do you all have a link for this? they seem to not match the course as it is not he website... I assume you all are doing the full course on July 30?

Excellent advise. Hot? Aha! I am in vegas area where even predawn rides are hot and then it gets serious. Wilted enough now run at 105!

4500 ft of climbing is a decent challenge, not exactly flat, not exactly Tahoe. Mostly rollers with one steep hill we hit 2x.

For me a relatively flat run is important-I have had to give up running this year and race walk instead. Hard to race walk steep terrain. So, the running profile is pretty good news-a few places where I'll break form. Biking wise, I am okay either way but like to put in some training on an equivalent route. Most of the routes in my area have steep climbs. My flattest available appears to be approximately equivalent. This is my first full and all-in-all, I feel I have a decent chance of finishing with those profiles. Now, I hope the swim is all downhill!

this looks like a wetsuit swim.... I thought it would be a warm swim since it is shallow...

I raced the full in '14. Was hot.....>100deg on run and it worked to my advantage as I iced and paced smart.
The hills arnt too bad on bike, but slowed me more than I planned....but I raced onHR& power not speed..... chalk hill is the worst and it was never a clip out threat.

The run has several short steep hills with serious downhill-rubber leg fall/ cramp trigger risk. I did some hill work 100-200yrd hills prior and had no issues

BTW it was my second Full and really liked the race! Be sure to go wine tasting still in your race kit right after as I did!

The swim is water cooler than air=fog .... nice

. But I remember being quite comfortable (vs Napa 50deg)
Dolphin dive the shallows!
