Elevated Resting HR, Why?

I monitor my resting HR (RHR) 3-4x a week and for the past two weeks its been 4-5 beats higher than normal (normal = 44-46).  I thought I was catching another cold, then I thought it could be from over training, but no cold (yet), I've taken extra rest days (my TSB was +33 yesterday and I started getting an extra hour of sleep most days.  Are there any other reasons for an elevated RHR?  Thanks.

  • I think you highlighted most of the causes:

    • Fatigue  (your TSB says you are rested)
      • Are you sleeping well
      • Is your work load high or is there some other level of extra stress not factored into the TSB?
    • Sick or coming down with something
    • Loss of fitness (not likely in your case)
    • Dehydration - maybe......??

With a +33 TSB and no confirmed sickness - I would just move forward, employ your training routine and keep an eye on it.

Thanks for your input. Work load/life/stress is very low. I'm going to work on getting more sleep. Currently getting around 6hrs on average. RHR is still around 50 bpm...very odd because usually I can attribute higher readings to something. Anyway, I'm pressing with training as usual. Thanks.
