Just got back from 2 weeks in CR

Hi Coach Patrick,

I just returned for two weeks in CR where I was unable to bike during that time.  I increased my swimming as I had an olympic size pool to use during this time and I kept up with my running, but am a bit worried that I may be behind in my biking at this point.  Should I increase my biking over the next few weeks or just resume where I was in my training plan?

  • Shelley, generally yes you should...can you tell me your race so I can be more specific for you? Thanks and welcome back!

  • Yes... I am signed up for duathalon on 5/22 and Quassy 1/2 on 6/5 and then imlp...
  • Hey Patrick, never heard back from you?   Wondering if you can help guide me on how I should "taper" this week for the duathalon on Sunday or leading up to Quassy on 6/5?   In addition, given my missing a couple weeks of biking didn't know if I should be doing any extra.  This past week I did two 90 min rides during the week and then 3.5 hours on Saturday and a little over two on Sunday.   I felt pretty good after that and they were pretty hilly rides.   This is all new to me so must want to make sure I am training correct.
  • Shelly, sorry for missing you there. Not sure how I did that!

There really isn't a taper for both...assuming the Duathlon is of substantial distance, I suggest you plan on the regular week through Thursday. Friday swim only. Saturday OFF, Sunday Race. Only Saturday potential activity would be practicing those transitions (even if just mentally) so you are ready! image

In the next week, the Monday is a Swim Only day...then a regular week....then check in with me for that week about the following week's taper for Quassy!

  • Coach Patrick, sent you a separate note about this week since I have Quassy on Sunday? Can you let me know what I should be doing for workouts the rest of the week leading up to the half?
