Garmin 310 xt and IM racing

doing my first IM with a 310 XT this summer at LAke Placid. Any tips for pulling your wetsuit off without breaking the wristrap or inadvertently stopping the time? More importantly will the battery survive my 11+ hour time? Thx!!

  • THe battery is spec'd to last for an IM. You can lock the screen by pressing two buttons (which I can't remember right now I just know which ones to push) thereby avoiding the wetsuit issue.
  •  My wetsuit comes off over it pretty easy when racing.  Not as easy when I have tried it out to see how much of a problem it would be.  I have tried to kinda tuck it under the sleeve when swimming to help with this non issue issue but that is a total waste of time as it always slips off in seconds.  I hate to admit it but will likely continue to try.  Never inadvertently pushed the buttons but have failed to actually push them when I tried.  From the race last week I have a 40 minute T1 time but an awesome bike split :-)

  • Haven't had problems with my 310xt at a couple of halves and at IMC last year.  No problems with getting the wetsuit sleeve off/over it.  No problems with buttons pulling it off.  This year I forgot to fully charge it before an ultramarathon, and the battery still lasted over 12 hours so you should be good.  I've never really tested the full battery limit though when the unit is collecting many types of data simultaneously (ANT Power, ANT HR, GPS, cadence/speed, etc.).

  • Found it! Not in the manual 'cause it was added as a firmware update:

Added Key Lock feature (Press the Mode and Up keys at the same time to turn on and off)

    enjoy!
  • Nice! thanks all.

Seriously Wiki worthy information!!!  But I'll have to write how to "unlock" it on my arm or I'll forget during the race!
