Amy's Trainer Question

Hey there Coach P! I will be executing the majority of my Ironman Chattanooga bike rides on my trainer this summer while the kids are on Summer break. Safer, more efficient, yadda yadda. Is there a % of the prescribed times that I should/could dial back when I'm doing a trainer ride? I will make sure I get enough road time in. Just want to be as efficient as possible with my limited time. I know you get that!

Hope things are well with you!

  • Amy we can totally work with that. Can you clarify if you mean Wed / Sat / Sun on trainer? Or just weekday stuff? You mention "road time" so I want to be sure.

In general you can cap trainer rides at 4 hours max, and plan on riding 80% of the total time. For example, a Saturday ride listed as 3:30 could be done as 2:45 on a trainer. You'd ideally keep the main set stuff, but lose some of the "remainder of time as" stuff...

Let me know re the above!

  • Thanks P! 80% while making sure the main set is completed is exactly what I was thinking and works perfectly. I will likely ride the trainer on the weekends when we have baseball (through July) because I can get on around the game schedules. I may do some Wednesday's outside and the occasional weekend ride outside until the beginning of August. Then I will ride on the road with hills more.
  • @Amy, perfection!!! FYI I am editing your profile to contain the size of that logo...stand by... image
