So good to see you Coach P! Thanks for the vid update. You are looking strong and in good spirits.
PS- Have to admit I giggled a little to see you sitting at a kitchen table in front of a microwave recording the video- I kept wondering where Daisy was :-)
You look great P. It's already obvious how your positive attitude is helping you to recover and move on quickly. Great message and thank you for sharing it.
As always great advice. Learning from adversity has to be the hardest thing in the world. It is far to easy to shrivel up in corner. It is good to see that you are doing the opposite and charging forward as best you can. It is great to see.
I agree with Nemo though, How is it that across the US, with a stop in a hospital, in a wheel chair you find a way to make a recording in front of microwave. Do you carry with you various kitchen backdrops for your videos. Are you really recovering in NorCal or are you in BoraBora with a nice wi-fi and fake backround.
Good words Coach P. Big dose of reality from out of nowhere. Great reminder of how I felt just after Pops passed. Taking time to experience those around you is the best part of life!
What a wonderful message, Coach P! We are all truly blessed to be able to do what we do. Thank you for sharing and giving us some perspective. Also, really good to see your progress in recovery. No doubt your health and fitness will make it a speedy one, but your positive attitude will be a huge part of it too.
Coach P, Incredible message....before watching your video, I was moping today because I didn't run as fast as I should have in a sprint tri yesterday....your video was a nice, gentle kick in the nutz. Thanks. Good luck on your recovery. B
Well Coach, under the heading "things could be worse", I offer you this news:
I got home to NC to find out that one of our local roadies suffered a crash in a Crit over the weekend. With just 3 laps to go he threw down a wicked surge just before turn one and suffered a tire failure in the narrow, 90 degree turn. The ensuing wreck resulted in a shattered collarbone in 3-4 places (surgery required), a few stitches, and a cannondale in two pieces. Luckily however he didn't take out anyone else in the process- everyone is thankful for that!
So, I guess the the glass half full for you here is that you bike could have ended up looking like this:
FYI- I shared with him your video from this thread for some encouragement and inspiration. He wants to send along his wishes for a speedy recovery as well. See P, even injured you are helping folks you don't even know!
Coach P you are a great role model for the team. The positive attitude and remembering the people in your life that make it worthwhile are messages we all need to hear every so often.
P-- Loved the message... and to be honest when we were on the way to the hospital together I had many of the same thought going through my head about life in perspective. We all get to do very cool stuff with being fit individuals but when that is taken away we realize how lucky we are and truely what are the most important things in life and those who mean the most to us. I thought too in the whole experience it really showed the connections and friendships that can be gained from so many as they helped us both without even a thought to what they were doing.
Good to see your video. I had a similar moment in life when i tore my ACL a few years ago and had a year long rehab before I really was the same. i had lots of time to think about how much being active and athletic meant to me. I also had time to appreciate the fact that all of family live in the same metroplex as I do and they all were very willing to help me through my trials and tribulations. But it did eventually lead me to triathlon and EN!
Thanks again for the message and reminder to not forget what I learned when I was in a similar place.
All, thanks for the feedback. The last few days have shown me that EN is anything but a bunch of triathletes bent on not swimming and pushing the pace/watts. We truly have something special here, something that each of you makes come to life daily, and I want you to know that it's just awesome. I can't wait to pay this mojo forward to the rest of you!
Coach P, thanks for reminding us what is important in life! Good for me to hear because I tend to have tunnel vision and forget about important people around me that make my life good. Get well.
Coach P~ Woke up thinking about that video you posted again. Really awesome stuff and points I forget about ALL the time. I thought about how you referred to this time as a way to grow and become BETTER. I had (have) a similar experience but it took me a little longer to get to THAT point. I will say that although the "injury" I sustained has been a limiter in some ways...I refer to it as "my great teacher". I heard that sentiment in your words last night and I commend you for seeing that so quickly. I guess that is what a good coach does. Thanks for everything
As others have stated your message was so pertinent and timely. It is one of those messages we know but so often forget or take for granted.
This sport of ours is one that is very easy to become selfish with our time and with our lofty goals. Pushing ourselves to the level of taking unhealthy risks is also not uncommon.
I am one of those people who does need to be reminded that this is still just a game.
So, I would like to personally thank you for the gentle slap up side the head.
Patrick- You set such an example for all of us. I would love to tbe the caliber of athlete that you are, but moreso, I hope to one day be the kind of human being you are!!

I also chuckled at the fact that the micro was in the background. Glad to see that you are on the mend and good luck with your trip home!
