HOKA HELP!

Hey Hoka Wearers! I need some help-

I bought a pair of these amazing shoes a few weeks ago. My first run in them was GREAT! Like clouds! and I loved them.  Then tried them again- not as great because I got a blister. 3rd time I went out to do 7 miles and it was awful.  I got a blood blister on the inside of my big toe and on the other foot- my 4th toe and pinkie toe were so jammed up- they were bruised and blistered.  It was a hilly run and I felt like my feet were smooshing in the front going down hill....then my toes were just in pain the entire rest of the run! Had to stop and few times just to rub them.  So what I am trying to figure out is if they are too big? too small? not wide enough? (my guess was not wide enough)  Is there another Hoka I could try??  I have the clifton 2s.

I really want to find a shoe like this that will work for my feet.

THANKS ALL!

  • Laura - Not sure I can diagnose your problem other than every person is different in how shoes fit. I tried the Clifton but it felt a little snug in the forefoot. Not a lot but just enough to be concerned about comfort on a long run. I run in the Bondi 4. Love it and I run a lot of hills. Not as light as the Clifton but only 1.5 oz difference. Good support and cushioning. Would recommend it highly. Try it through Running Warehouse or Road Runner Sports and you get 90 days to try and return if not happy.
  • The clifton 2s are known to have a tight toe box. I got 2 bruised toes from wearing them but mine were wore out when this began to happen.
  • I've had many Hoka's and only the Clifton 2 gave me blisters on the inside of each foot...and only if I was going over 8 miles or so. I started putting body glide on before hand and that took care of the problem. However, I would not buy the Clifton 2 again. I went with another model a couple of months ago. This weekend I bought a pair of Hoka Clayton's to use in my next IM.
  • Hi Laura, love the Cliftons. They were ok for a while then my toes started bruising. I went up a 1/2 size and that took care of the problem. I had been a 1/2 size smaller based on sizing feedback from others.
  • I also went up a half size and have no problems
  • Try the claytons. They are very similar to the Clifton but the toe box is much larger. They are just a touch firmer than the Clifton but again very similar in feel, just wider up front.
