Muscle recovery

Looking at the Normatec & the Electrical Muscle Stimulation devices. Looking for feed back on the pros & cons of each & do they actually help on the recovery?

  • Moving this to the Gear forum where it will get more eyes on it.
  • I have both Normatec and Compex but don't use either enough. Felt they were helpful at the TOC. As I am approaching IMLP I will use them more. I am bring both to Quassy as I am doing bot races. I will use Normatec early after first race and the Compex at night. Can't give you data cause there isn't any. It's a luxury item. The new versions of each are the same as the old ones just packaged better. No wires or easier to transport.
  • Gonna be difficult to do better than Normatec........I use it after every hard run and it gets the job done.

  • I have the Normatec's and a Marc Pro and like them both. The Mark Pro is kind of like a Compex, but only for recovery. The Compex can also be used for electrical contractions for stimulation "training" (for instance to give you a quad workout if you have an ankle injury).

I really like the Normatecs after big training rides/runs (used them after every ride at #AlCamp). I also use them at night sometimes while during big training blocks. Sort of like a leg massage while I'm eating dinner on the couch. I use the Marc Pro if I have something that's particularly tight. I keep my Marc Pro at work and hook it up to my quads or calfs (or sometimes my low back) during the day while I'm sitting at my desk.

It sure seems to me like they both work, but I doubt you'll find any real scientific research to confirm that. If I could "only" have one or the other, I'd have the Normatec's, but I'm glad I have both...
  • I used the Normatecs on Saturday after the Quassy Oly and my legs had the sensation of being refreshed. I later used the Compex on my quads Hammies and calves which were a little tight after the first race. Sunday I felt pretty darn good for the Quassy half. Last night did the same routine which definitely loosened up the tightness in the quads and my chronically achey Hamstring. So what I'm saying is "what Withrow said". I plan to make use of both at the LP camp this weekend.

  • @ Robert - you have pointed at your local (personal) computer.
We can't look at it because we don't know your IP address.
  • @ Robert - sorry , rereading my comment showed me that I forgot the most important point I should make which was "thank you for you feedback on the products discussed."
On JW's. SS's and your support, I will get the "Normatecs " option.
And yes, I know it is a 'Vanity' decision and am happy to spend the $s on that basis.
  • Sorry I guess I have to see if there a remedial post on importing images to a forum
