2016 IM CDA- Week 11- Another BIG DAY! GET READY!

Week 11 - Another "Big Day"
LOVEEE the index card trick Mark!! Thanks for always having some awesome advice and mojo!! SO how did everyone do last week?? How's training?? Whats goin on?? Let's hear it!
Time for your Second “Big Day”

Things to pay attention to

Nutrition

Watching your pacing (are you making mistakes early on?)

Don’t “rest” in-between but no need to go full fledge tri geek and set up transitions where you sprint from event to event

What coaches want to see this week is us talking about how we are going to prepare. Post your “big day” check list here, a chance to even practice your “race plan” and “race report”

Let’s not wait until after the big day to start discussing what we did or didn’t do. Lets plan it out, write it out and discuss it now so we can help each other. Then debrief the awesome CDA Crew after the big day on what worked and what didn’t.

This will set you up for your race rehearsals closer to race day.

****There is still time to find a friend who is racing IM CDA and give them the best gift you could give someone— no not a power meter, a free 30 days of Endurance Nation. Sharing is caring! (you get a Free month when they sign up also)**** give them friend@endurancenation.us email and we take care of the rest!

Ya’ll are EN rock stars…. soooo what’s on your mind?

Hey Everyone, Last week was pretty a much a bust for me in terms of training. There was something going around at work (in addition to the deadline for a major project that I've been working on for about a year) and I felt like I was catching it for several days so I skipped several workouts to keep from getting sick. Happily that worked for that purpose. Two other things were going on as well. My hamstring tightened up again and so I couldn't run and I was working with my LBS to get my bike repair sorted out. Neither of those two things were progressing fast enough for my impatient self. I had the day off on Friday but I went into work for a while and got a lot done so that felt good. Then I took our bikes (Susan's was the subject of a recall) up to Tacoma to the bike store. He was able to get Felt to agree that he could handle the warranty and recall even though he is no longer a Felt dealer and he really went to bat for us. I still don't know if they're going to send me a new frame or repair the old one, but at least things are moving. I was also able to get a massage Friday evening and though it hurt, it broke up some of the scar tissue in my hammy and it's getting better.

I did take the road bike out on Saturday and get in a 3+ hour ABP ride. That was a good thing to be out riding but I certainly found out how much harder it is to ride a road bike against a headwind. A segment that normally takes me ~55 minutes on the tribike took 66 minutes. Ouch. That's gonna hurt if I have to ride it at CDA 70.3 in less than two weeks. I was thinking of riding again on Sunday, but my hamstring was still a little tight and I did feel a few twinges when I was riding on Saturday so I didn't want to stress it too much. So when Susan was out training I stayed home and did house and yard work. It was good to get caught up on some of that and it reduced other stress of having a to-do list hanging over my head. I made a resolution to get back to work today and set up things up to facilitate that. I did get back in the pool today and had a good 2700 yard workout where I kept the times steady in the 8X100 and 8X50 sets and then descended the 3X300 set. Tomorrow is another swim and I want to get out and try to run.

I'll post more later as we get closer to the Big Day. The swim and the bike should be easily doable, but the hour run is a question. Train smart and get psyched up for the day.

Slooooow and steady here ... Been staying on track with workouts, my waypoints may seem small to y'all (okie jargon) but they are huge for me ... Been cutting down my swim times in the pool 1:26/2.43 mi/AHR 124 ... Beat my previous best by 7 minutes! Hope to get some OWS in soon. Biked 40 miles on a trainer ride then went 64 miles the next day ... Was shooting for 100 miles but had some foot pain, plenty in the tank from energy standpoint but had to quit ... Kept hurting during several runs ... Bought a couple new pairs of shoes that have seemed to help, Asics Trinoosa and Saucony ... The Newtons I tried made the pain in my feet worse ... Will get it dialed in!. Coach P has been guiding me ... Today I swam and ran ... Run a mile walk a minute run a mile walk a minute ... My AHR has come down significantly over the past three weeks while running and mileage has gone up ... Like what was suggested by the team I focus on visualizing race day during my workouts and have started a mental check list from the intro videos and awesome advice from the team. In Los Angeles this week for work so I am going to attend a race execution workshop with Coach R tomorrow night. Did the Inside Tracker and found some interesting stuff ... My inner age was 40.7 whereas my actual age is 47.3 ... I'm feeling good ... Went to a natural doctor to help me figure out why with all my training I am not losing more lbs ... Told me I was not eating enough so starting to eat more of the same, clean foods ... Seems counterintuitive but we will give it a try.

Intimidated yes ... Gaining confidence definitely ... Hope I'm ready 8/21/16. 16:59.59 or bust!

@ Marc, sounds like you're making great progress. Keep up the good work. I understand y'all, but l don't quite understand the nomenclature "1:26/2.43 mi/AHR 124" you used to describe the swim. Is that 1 hour and 26 minutes/mile? I'm used to seeing times in minutes/100 yards or meters so that's why I'm confused.

Got my second swim of the week in this morning about 12 hours after l finished yesterday's swim. My lats and shoulders were still a little sore when I started, but l pretty much matched the split times I did yesterday with the same workout so I'll take that and move on. I'll try a run this afternoon to test the hammy.

Mark ... how's the hamstring? Hope training is going well ... I ran last night and my heart rate has come down quite a bit from where I started ... think I am making progress on this most challenging portion of the race for me. Hope you are well!

Marc, I did a short run off a 73 mile bike ride on Sunday and it felt fine. I did a 3.5 mile run this morning pain free! I have a HIM in CDA this weekend so we'll see how that goes.

Glad to hear about the HR coming down. It means that your fitness is going up. Soon you'll have to work harder to get the same aerobic benefits, which means you'll go faster.<img src='http://members.endurancenation.ushttp://members.endurancenation.us/DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/biggrin.gif' align="absmiddle" border="0" class="afEmoticon" />
