Race Rehearsal Question

Coach Patrick,

I have a MMRF training camp planned for the weekend of 6/24 - 6/26.   Based on that should I still plan on doing the "race rehearsal" (week 15 imlp beginner plan) if I can't get it in on Friday and I have a VERY busy weekend planned (turning 50, fathers day, cheering friends on at a race on Saturday, etc...) ?   What should I plan on doing this weekend and leading up to camp next weekend?

Thanks Shelly

I am sorry, but I do not know what that training camp entails. If you are up there I would suggest doing your longer rides on that course simply not compromising your we can now. That would mean to buy long rides on the course even if it means sacrificing some of the runtime. Open networks of the camp but we can always sort that out next week once you are back online.

For this weekend, I suggest that you plan on doing your normal Saturday long ride on one of the days. The other day can just be an easy run to compensate for all the additional stress you have in your life. Congratulations on your birthday!!!!

don't worry about cutting things back this week. Everyone also be happier for it, they will appreciate your perspective, and you'll have plenty of time to make yourself suffer next weekend. image
  • Thanks Patrick! So here is what I was able to complete this weekend. Friday - 4.25 ride (57 miles) followed by 15 min brick run; Saturday - 60 mile ride followed by a 3 mile brick run; Sunday - 2 hour run. This week is leading up to camp so I planned on doing all the normal week 16 plan items except for the 2 hour run on Thursday. Was thinking maybe I should cut that back to 60 mins? Thoughts on that? My camp is going to entail a full swim rehearsal on Friday; 2 loops bike followed by 30 min(opt) run on Saturday, followed by one loop of run on Sunday. (I may throw in another swim if nice out)

Please let me know if that is a good plan and then what I should do upon returning from camp weekend? Assuming take Monday off and then back into reg week 17, but want to verify you agree with that?

    Thanks Patrick!

That's great work! For this week, yes your long run should really be on Sunday when you do the half loop. This Thursday -- if you are traveling -- I would just keep it to a very short run in the 30 minute range. No need to run a full hour. Even if that's a quick 30 minute jog when you arrive on site to get loose again is fine.

Then do the camp's prescribed sessions -- that sounds great. Don't forget that you need to do excellent nutrition and hydration is the course can be quite hot. You will have lots of learning going on so be sure to bring a notepad take everything down so we can debrief afterwards. You need to be peeing clear by the time you go to bed every night otherwise the next day's workouts will be awful. #TMI

Bonus if you get that extra swim in on Sunday. Once you are back home again, you will definitely need the Monday off and Tuesday will probably light as well. Wednesday you can bike, but I would do it for the timing of the intensity. Hopefully by Thursday you'll be back at the long run but we will see.

Have a great trip and please post some pictures for us online!
  • Thanks Patrick! Really appreciate the guidance! Will post pics! It is going to be hot up there this weekend, totally different than two weeks ago when I was there and you guys were there for the en camp! I will remember to fuel and hydrate! #peeclearbynight image

    Thank you!
