Big Time Water Retention--Hypothyroid Bummer
May I ask for some advice on what I can/can't do to get rid of extra water retention? Ever since my thyroid went nutty, I am up between 5-7 pounds. For 3 months now I have been tracking every single mouthful of calories, eating clean, had my RMR tested, and am working with Penny. I am not overeating, and based on physical evidence, a lot of this has to be water.
Extra water has to be the reason why I woke up another two pounds heavier this morning. My buddies in my doggie group were commenting on how puffy my eyes looked today. Certain body parts are bustin' out all over. Pun intended. My DH is thrilled, but I hate it. My belly is puffy and so are my thighs--by comparison to my normal self. It sems to be getting worse.
Is there anything I can do to get rid of the extra fluid? I know I don't wan to dessicate myself for obvious reasons. Should the doc I ask for a fluid pill to use with discretion? Anything natural to take to relieve some of this? I tried apple cider vinegar, but that did nothing. And, yes, I drink plenty of water each day, eat water-filled fruits and veg (clean eating).
TIA everyone!

Call your doc ASAP. You medications might need adjusting, or another medication added. How is your sodium intake? There could be other things going on that your doc needs to consider. IMHO when one part of the endocrine system gets out of whack, others can follow. It is a very delicate balancing act.
Coming to you from Lake Como, Italy. :-)
Linda- I agree with Penny, I would contact your MD, look for other causes of fluid retention. Some other things could be off. Diuretic can effect your electrolytes so need to be careful
I am going to call the doc, but just wanted thinking here about how to manage something like this in relation to training. I'd rather carry the water (bummer) and not mess up my training self, than get rid of it and be a dessicated mess on the roads. I have no idea how to think about this issue in relation to our efforts, or what to do (if anything).
I know water retention is a sympton of hypo, and it has neatly coincided with this situtation. It'snot the normal ebb and flow of fluid retention, it just never goes away--but it has stayed stable. Just added Synthroid to the mix last week, in addition to the Cytomel, but no change to report in the water issue. I was hoping it would help.
Thanks. Will be calling today, but I'm not expecting much to be truthful.
Linda- Synthroid is a very slow acting drug with long half life. I would not expect to see/feel anything for about 4 weeks.
Sorry you are still feeling bad, hopefully will feel better in a few weeks, just takes time. I would still discuss, especially since new med added and water retention incrresed?
