Cicely W. Macro Thread

Good morning! Been with EN now for about a month and a half and finally starting to adjust to the scheduling and the overwhelming amount of information. I load the full ironman training plan in a couple of weeks and it finally hit me...I'm doing an ironman in 14 weeks. I'm super excited to get the training started and I'm going to try to follow the schedule in the order presented as closely as possible, but I'm really at a loss on what my goal time should be to complete this race. I will be unable to come to the Chattanooga camp due to work (I'm a school teacher and that's the first week we go back to school). Any guidance on dialing down my race pace is appreciated--I'm following my zones based off of my tests, but I'm not going to lie--I don't feel like I could race that fast. I'm already struggling to hit most of my paces due to the heat (south Mississippi). Hope this was the correct place to post this. Thank you!

    Hey Cicely,

First of all, you have tons and tons of time to build your fitness and learn how to race the Ironman distance. Everything you need to know can be found here in the Wiki. Best to start reading, learning, wrapping your head around that, and then have an ongoing conversation with us and the Team in the Race Execution Forum, where we can answer any questions you have. Good luck!

  • Would like advice on my upcoming race rehearsal for IM Chattanooga. I'm unable to be at camp due to work. Could I switch the Friday and Saturday workouts during week 15 and 18? I will take the day off on Friday and go and bike 60-80 miles (depending on how I feel) and complete the full race rehearsal on Saturday. I would like to keep the 2/3 hour run on Sundays for those weeks. Also, looking ahead, week 17 has a 3 hour RR run on Thursday. I am just making my 2 hour runs work on the week day; however, I don't think I'm going to be able to truly get in a quality run that long on a Thursday--work, family, etc. Could I move it to Sunday in place of the 210 min. bike? Thanks for your help!

However, recommend you go with the shorter option so you can ensure you have a quality race rehearsal. I would like to keep the 2/3 hour run on Sundays for those weeks. Thanks for your help! Can you do 2-2.5hrs on Thurs vs 3hrs on Sunday? My concern is that you'll be very, very fatigued on that Sunday after your Saturday ride. So I'd rather have you do a shorter run on fresh(ish) legs on Thurs vs the full scheduled run on thrashed legs on Sunday.
