Shut down after a run on the trail

 Let me set the stage...

7 miler through the "woods", really a nice dirt bike path, flat running trail...you get the picture. Literally "snowing" ragweed or pollen or whatever comes off the trees here in the NE. The path was white with this stuff, it was kinda crazy. Anyway, I am running through it feeling great. Get to the car and my body just shuts down. Feeling chilled, "creepy crawlies" on my skin, dizzy...soreness behind the eyes. Had to shut it down for the entire night. Woke up feeling a little residual, popped some Tylenol and I am at work.

So....anyone ever have a similar deal? Allergies?

Thanks

JC

  • If it goes away in a day, it was probably the pollen.
  • JC, that much pollen can cause the body to do funny things.  Take some allergy medicine (a Benadryl, or maybe a Claritin-type), and get a good night's sleep.

  • thanks for replying folks...i think I am "burning the candle at both ends and blowtorching the middle"... thanks again image
  • The "snowing" is cottonwood. After returning from dry SoCal, I thought I was seeing spots on my trail run yesterday too. The air in the NE is full of pollen right now. Sounds like you had a lovely histamine release overload from allergies. For the last 3 seasons, I've had profuse running of my nose, itchy eyes, and hives (new this year!) around this time of year. At the start of the season, the allergies can really kick my head in and I'm wiped out from all the congestion and feeling heavy in my head. I used Claritin---take it at night so any drowsiness becomes a good night's sleep. You can see your PCP about it...the treatment options are antihistamines, steroid nasal sprays (i.e. Nasonex), and allergie shots.
  • thank you Kitima...I would agree...it was crazy out there!
