bontrager ballista helmet- reviews

Hi all!

Anyone try the Bontrager Ballista helmet?? I read some reviews that say it is extremely aerodynamic... Thoughts??? Anyone try it out???

  • A friend of mine rides with it in our TTT. He likes it. He said the ventilation is outstanding and as a result it's one of the coolest (temp) aero helmets he's had.

The one strange thing is they (Bontrager) make the claim that it is the fastest aero helmet available and outperforms the competition. But they offer not testing data to do so. Now I've never been a big believer in testing data performed/sponsored by a brand, as the data presented and testing methods selected favor said product of the brand. With that being said, it still seems strange that they haven't offered any data. At least not from what I've read.
  • It tested fastest in a magazine review that was widely panned on Slowtwitch for the utter incompetence of the testing protocol. The critics of the testing included ERO sports and other widely respected engineers. Bottomline, we don't know how the helmet compares to others because that test was so poorly conducted.

Paul - It's bee 5 years and I'm still Slowtwitch free!

Makes sense on why the reviews I've seen on the Bontrager Ballista don't list the comparative results (if their testing methods are being questioned).

  • No idea how aero it is for the reasons above, but I use the Ballista every ride and find it very comfortable (more than the road helmet I had been using).

They also have a great crash replacement policy -- free replacement if you crash in the first year -- which unfortunately I've had to use.
