If you have any questions about race weekend, Endurance Nation, whatever it is------I your trusty Race Captain extraordinaire will be here to answer any and all you can throw at me- just send me a message or post it here!!

I'm sure I have left some things out but no need to worry, we have plenty of time to IRON (see what I did there) all that out before race week.

Here is where you introduce yourself. Really excited to get to know you all and help you not only cross the finish line, but CRUSH it!

On your mark.... get set.... GO!

  • For me, this has been a long road.  I have wanted to do IRONMAN since I saw Julie Moss complete the course in 1982!  Although having not heard those magic words at Louisville (12 miles short) or Lake Placid (missed the bike cutoff), Chattanooga will be it.  Third time is the charm!  These last two months have been frustrating.  I ran a half marathon and got Poison Oak on the short trail portion.  After getting rid of that, I was out on a training ride and crashed.  GPS said 28.48 mph.  Broke my helmet.  I have to replace my bike (Carbon fiber is wonderful, most of the time...).  But I walked away, well maybe limped away.

I know that I can get the physical part of this thing done.  It has become a mental game.  There are only 2 races that I have not finished out of the multitude I have entered.  Maybe I doubt myself.  This is my battle.  It is a month since the crash and I am still sore.  This gives me "an excuse" not to work as hard.  I have to get past this!

I am headed to Chattanooga 7/3 - 7/11 for a nice "relaxing vacation" with my wife.  Also returning for training camp and then RACE DAY!

  • @Mark - you can do this! I've been following your progress post-crash

As for me, I completed my first IM at Lake Placid last year. My training was going very well up until 2 weeks ago when I crashed my bike on a training ride...also at 28mph like Mark! Unfortunately, I have a level 3 AC joint dislocation (shoulder separation) and I've been in a sling for 2 weeks. No swimming or running. I am hitting the bike indoors and walking hills to try to maintain. I have a doctor visit tomorrow to see what the long-term prognosis is. Hopefully it's just rehab and I can start running soon.

  • Ok, there is a troubling pattern emerging here. Let me see if I can change direction. I was in a half IM on June 12th in Grand Rapids, MI. All was well...even on the bike...I did not crash. But a nasty cough and chest congestion began. On the run noticed that I was hacking up blood so I DNF'ed. You can read about the lessons learned in the race report forum.

But I'm almost back to full volume and intensity with no ill effects. I'll follow up with doctors but all is well from my point-of-view.

So I'm in and looking forward to meeting all of you soon. I will be in for the camp in August.

@Mark you can get this done. Let me know how I can help.
@Don likewise. Wishing you all the best on your doctor visit.
  • Maybe if we get together we could have a whole triathlete between us!!!!! Looking forward to training camp where we can tell the tall tales of our injuries! Good Vibes to you both!

  • Hi guys,
This will be my third and probably last IM so I want it to be the best ever. Not so much what my time will be but that i am injury free to race and that i execute my race as planned. First IM was in 2011 and possibly the best day of my life outside of my kids being born and my wedding day! I am a middle of the pack racer ...12 years in the making. I have had two injuries this season and because of it, I have backed off with speed and intensity but that is ok. I am fully recovered but I don't want to race IM like I did my 2nd one in 2013. That year I was not able to train the last many weeks as I needed the recovery time. I was only 20 min (?) slower than my first and not too much pain from injury on the course but it wasn't the same as my first. I just want to get on the course this year knowing I did all I could do for a successful race! A PR would be great but I will take strong and steady and no injuries before a better time image
  • Hey Everyone!
This will be my third IM. First was IMMT in 2014, then IMLP last year. I decided to do IM Choo after having a blast racing 70.3 Choo race last year. Though slightly different, bike course is deceivingly fast and I slugged through the run...but overall, it was a great event. Plus the city is awesome with a nice southern charm. So far my training is shaping up well and I'm looking forward to meeting more EN peeps. Mark, Don and Pat, I hope you heal quickly and are able to continue IM Choo training!
  • I am sitting in our camper about 3 hours from Chattanooga.  I am arriving tomorrow and planning to do a nice run along the river....  Good trip so far.  My wife is happy.  Her (our) cat Nina is happy.  What more could one ask for?  I will be hitting the bike course on my road bike.  New bike is somewhere in the shipping insanity of the holidays.  I will have it waiting when I get home.  Thanks for the positive wishes and I will see you in September.  (Bypassed your area this trip.  Straight down I-81 for a long time!)

  • @Derrek Hey man! You following me around to Ironman races!? LOL Looking forward to seeing you again.
  • I'm in!  Had a blast last year and couldn't resist taking another shot at IMCHOO!  Hi everyone!  You will absolutely love this town, the course and the entire atmosphere.  Looking forward to meeting everyone.  Hope to see many of you at the Training Camp in early August.  This will be my ninth Ironman, but the first time I have done the same race two years in a row, (not to mention doing a camp beforehand).  Yes, I am pulling out all of the stops to give myself a shot a having a great race.  Training has been decent so far and I'm excited about the possibilities.  As we begin our final 12 weeks, let's keep it fun and get to the line healthy!

    Mike

  • I'm in. This will be #5. Training has been ok so far. I travel weekly for work and have a hip injury that is preventing running right now but hopefully in a few weeks I can start again. Heading out today to hike the hills at Devils Lake to keep some sort of running fitness. Enjoy the holiday.
  • REPORT FROM CHATTANOOGA

Workout - Would this count as a BRICK?  Pedaling on the water....  Kind of like cycling and swimming, maybe?  Just about 5 miles in 45 minutes and a puddle of sweat under my seat!  (http://chattanoogacycleboats.com)  It hit 99 here today.  The Blue Plate near Ross Landing was really good.  My wife made me go to the Moon Pie General Store.  Looking forward to a swim at the Downtown Y, 301 W. 6th, tomorrow and hopefully a real ride on part of the course.  Felt good to be here today, but drained quickly in the heat.

  • There's a good burger joint there called Urban Stack http://urbanstack.com
  • So is there a link that talks about thursday's run being split into two runs? I somehow missed any info on the why's, etc. Although I can guess why, I wanted to read more about it. I have another HIM in a few weeks and makes me a bit nervous about not running a longer distance as one run as I ramp up my milage again (did Raligh HIM several weeks/month ago but the plan had backed off in distance since switching over to my IM plan). If anyone knows where it more info is regarding, can you send my way? Thanks!!

  • @Don, great minds...I'm looking forward to racing with you again. I hope the recovery process is speeding along.
@John, Welcome...glad to have you Choocrew!
  • Hi Everyone, I'm a little late to the party on the intro's but here I am! This will be my 4th IM and second time at Chatt. I did the race in 2014 and really enjoyed it. Initially I wasn't going to do another IM until I had reach a body comp goal and bettered my swim but then....I chased the proverbial shiny light when I saw a couple of friends sign up for 2016. I have some unfinished business from 2014 where I had to walk miles 15-26 of the run because of a foot issue. My goal is to finish under 14hrs this time which is absolutely doable since I finished in 14:04 last time with all the walking. My one thing this year will be our fallen teammate Joel. He was was my walking buddy in those long dark miles and I'm forever grateful for him.

I'm a mom of two teenage boys who play travel baseball which really poses a challenge for my weekend training so I am constantly in a juggling act and my husband jokes with me when he sees a look that comes over me and says in his Siri voice, "recalculating". I'm currently in Ft. Myers for a baseball tournament all week and it's hotter than the surface of the sun with "feels like" temps in the triple digits so running hasn't happened. I did bring my bike/trainer and have remained consistent with that (inside).

Training so far has been going well this year and my main goal is to stay consistent and arrive at the start with no physical issues.
  • Amy welcome to the Choo Crew. Laughing at you bringing your bike trainer...just spent the weekend in Omaha and back in Little Rock last night. I unloaded my Kickr Snap for the second trip in a month. I guess now thats part of the stuff we must carry on trips as a triathlete.

Good luck with the heat and humidity, but I'm sure that Alpharetta is not much better.
  • HI Amy!!

Welcome! Same kind of story.. raced last IM with an injury and want my third one to be injury free and steady!
