  • We have also had a thread for healthy recipes here which has some favorites: http://members.endurancenation.us/Forums/tabid/57/aft/18421/Default.aspx

Consider adding a page in the Wiki to keep the healthy info in one place?
    Just a thought.
  • I've got my favorite vegan recipes here on my blog... What I Eat & How to Make It

Since I'm often asked how I manage being vegan while training, I decided to do a few blog posts on the topic. More on that here: How to Eat Vegan: An Easy Guide for Athletes & Others Alike

While likely preaching to the choir here, I can't overstate how big of an impact going vegan has been on my fitness & training. Recovery is fast, energy is high and I'm now able to stay fairly lean year-round without much thought. If you're not happy with your current eating habits or simply want more energy, give it a try.

Interested to hear more tips and recipes from the other vegans out there!

  • Rob Mohr- Its exciting to me to find out you are vegan. Heather and I have been vegan since Oct 2009 so well into our 8th year. During that time I have willfully knowingly eaten venison and tuna (both given to me) each once and gave the remainders to the dogs , occasionally will consume known baked goods with milk or eggs, partake in chicken broth after an IM if needed , and I will consume honey , there are always things you may consume accidentally as well so I really prefer the term Plant Based which is not an all or none... But for the most part we are pretty damn particular and will almost always choose no animal products... Your links did not work but I read your blog(I had been there before but did not enter the "eat" area).... Very well done and I share many of your beliefs.... Thanks so much for sharing... As far as recipes go its almost not necessary in our realm of eating. We have lots of favorites , but usually wing it with bowls and vary the ingredients, if we buy something new or unique will use search for some ideas to prepare it...Also indulge in white breads, white rice, vegan baked goods and ice cream but will try to keep these around high volume activity when the extra calories are needed... We also consume the faux stuff but try to keep that at a minimum as well.

Breakfast- oatmeal soaked in plant based milk with many or all , berries, flax, hempseed, chia seed , raisins , PB or AB , cinnamon, banana, maple syrup, coconut oil.... Ezekiel muffins or bagel with AB and Dates... Other cereals like Uncle Sam etc....

Lunch- mostly wraps or salads , with as many vegetable colors as possible , grain or potato, humus , tempe , tofu , beans etc , topped with tahini , siracha, olive oil, lemon

Dinner- bowls - base of greens and vary all the time, some kind of grain or potato again varied, veggies either steamed or roasted, tempe, tofu, legumes and or nuts, again topped with tahini and siracha etc

snacks- nuts, nut butters, fruits, pretzels , popcorn

deserts- cookies, ice cream, dates dates dates

  • Hey Tim - Thanks for sharing. I'm getting hungry just reading through your routine foods. And yes, like you, I'm rarely following any specific recipes these days. Mostly just a mixing and matching of foods in a big bowl, hitting all the colors I can. That's always a good strategy!

I'm also in the "plant-based" category and often feel the need to clarify when people say, "so you're vegan," since I eat honey and I too will occasionally have something with egg or dairy baked into it. I also have fish a couple times a year.

Sorry those blog links didn't work. Hopefully this one comes through for others interested...

  • Just tossing in the two of Brendan Brazier's books I have on my bookshelf. Thrive: The Vegan Nutrition Guide to Optimal Performance in Sports and Life, and Thrive. I have a large collection of vegan / vegetarian book titles I am happy to share. There is also The No Meat Athlete by Matt Frazier.

    Cheers!
