Train or rest deep muscle bruise

Two days ago I had a table fall on my thigh. I've had a lot of pain in that quad since. My plan calls for a five hour ride today. I did a short ride last night. It hurt, but I think I can push through today's long ride. Should I, or should I rest it?

  • Personally, I think that since it hurt yesterday, you should rest it today. Otherwise, you risk following your plan 'into a brick wall.' Take a day or two off, rest it, and also post to Coach P in your micro thread for plan modifications while you are healing.

    It's been three days and both the pain and range of motion is worse each day. Now I'm having trouble even walking. I'll go to my doctor tomorrow. No biking or running until this is resolved. I'll try to do some swimming with a pull buoy. 

  • Yup. If easy spinning (60-70% FTP) is painful, you have an issue that needs at least a look.

    Good news. The doctor did an x-ray and found no issue with bone, so it is just a soft-tissue injury. He said I can train as pain allows. I'm finally improving - I was able to do a 90-minute endurance ride today with no pain - so I think things are getting better. I still have a lot of swelling and bruising, so I'm taking it slowly.
