Modification for OWS & Big Day Report

First off, EN is great, you definitely have a new paid member-as soon as I figure out the payment system). Reasons-Mariah's phone call, very welcoming, made me feel like a team member right off the bat; Patrick's incredibly quick response to questions; and a customized plan from coach Rick. I think your partnership with Rev will pay dividends with that type of service for trial members).

Comment-It's tough to figure out (for this trial member at least-but you've got to play to your least common denominator) how to turn a trial membership into a paid one. The only option I can easily find is "change your credit card" and maybe that's where to do it, but it's not intuitive. I'm still waiting to hear from support re how to sign up as a paid member. If support was as responsive as the three of you were, you would have a paid member several days ago.

My questions-going into week 12 of the 1/2 plan-on way to a full. There is a 2 mile OWS this Saturday. I've been looking forward to/dreading that for a while. It will be a big confidence boost if I can complete it. I'm thinking I'll swap my Saturday workout to Sunday and drop Sunday's ride. Thoughts?

Big day report-35 min OWS-cut short due to needing to make an early group ride. This was my second OWS of the season & I felt comfortable in the water-my biggest goal. Ride was 65 miles, just under 4 hours. The group was WAY too slow, I stayed with them for social reasons-but towards the end started "Indian rides"-pull ahead, turn around, ride back behind and catch up. I'm afraid I need a new group, I was feeling like doing 20 mph, they rode 16. Run was slow, due to lingering knee pain after my fastest 5 mile race ever last week (by about 6 minutes). I think my fueling was successful-although the group stopped for lunch at mile 40..... so that compromised it a bit.

Anyway, congrats and thanks for letting me join the team-I'm looking forward to the rest of the season.

  • Welcome to the team Eric. You won't find a more helpful or supportive group anywhere. There's a lot to explore online once you get going... You'll fill many hours learning more than you can imagine. I'd recommend you connect with all your new teammates on Strava... nothing motivates you more than watching these beasts put it on the line... day in day out!
  • Eric, great to have you here and thank so much for the kind words. As for this week, I agree that long swim will be huge for you. I suggest you swap as planned, and that you approach the swim like a race.

Get there early. Warm up a bit in the water (10' as 5' easy swimming, then 5' with a few harder strokes). Get out, have a gel @ 15' prior to the start with some water or sports drink. Stretch and make jokes.

Then when it starts, spend the first 100 strokes, just trying to find your rhythm -- better swimming is faster swimming.

IOW, let's build your effort over the entire swim to get you to finish strong.

Ps, you can go to My Account / Join Now to activate your paid membership.

    Thanks!!!

  • Ed and Patrick, thanks very much for comments. I'll get on Srava and start to it. My swim coach this morning seems to think that based on a 2:15 pace 300 meters I should be able to avoid being yanked out of the water before the hour cutoff (my A goal for the race!)
  • Game on! Let's get to work!
