Transition Week - Suggestions, Tips, Future Reference

Hi all.  Today marks my first ever Transition 1 Week (unstructured training before IM Plan).  I individually planned a 3500m swim today, sweat test tomorrow, a cool "Rinnie" treadmill hill wko I pulled from her site for Wednesday, rest day (prob a bit of strength and core) Thursday, long run (85-90 min) Friday, quick swim and 3x10 Z4 trainer ride Saturday, and a sprint race Sunday.

Questions, how did I do? Should I have built in more rest / more work?  Probably very individual, but how do others approach this week in general?

Thanks and look forward to any tips or help!

  • The idea is to feel eager to go on Monday. Coming off a sprint tri ought to put you in the right frame of mind. Doing a few different things from your standard grind is also great for shaking out the mental cobwebs. I'd say you;ve got the right idea. I don;t know where you are in run training, but keeping up a steady 5-7 days of running each week, even if it's only 6 x 5K is better than slacking on that run durability discipline.

  • Thanks Al. Appreciate the response.
  • What Al said...transition is to mentally rest more than physically, but you still want to be ready for the new work when it comes.
Personally my preferred Transition period is up, core + coffee + 30' run @ TRP. Then if the rest of the day lets me do something else (bike or swim), I do it. Fun, just not too hard!
