Two days after half-iron and still dizzy sometimes?

I'm not exactly thinking this is a big deal, more or less just think it's curious that 2 days after my first half-iron I'm still getting light-headed if I bend over and stand up too quickly. (And given that I'm unpacking from that event and repacking for another adventure, there's a fair bit of bending going on. ;-)

The day after the race I was drinking electrolyte water, today I threw in some lemonade because I've had enough of lemon-lime sport beverages for awhile... I've been drinking what seems like lots of water, but don't know if I'd be better to have more sugary beverages like lemonade, or if I should try some more base salts, or what would be the most helpful?

Appreciate any direction our team has to offer!

  • Catherine, how about regular food? Are you answering the call of the stomach? I've eaten like a horse and lost weight since the race. If so I'd keep hydrating and eat a few salty snacks or salt your food a bit and see if that helps. And sometimes us athletes get so well trained our resting hr is very low. If you get up too fast the blood rushes and dizzy happens! Could that be part of your issue?

PS...congrats on a great first 70.3! Sorry we didn't meet face to face, especially since we are both from the Mitten!! I was the chicka in the EN speed suit. image
  • Catherine,
It was a greet meeting you on Saturday and running with you to the finish on Saturday. I hope you're feeling better. I'm thinking your blood sugars are likely low. I've had the same thing happen during hard training sessions and was told it's likely my blood sugars getting low. I was told to get some ice cream and treat myself. But they also said to be sure I'm getting enough rest, properly hydrated and eat well balanced meals with lots of greens. Congrats on your first 70.3. I'm sure it not be your last.

    Good luck in Houghton.
  • CJ, be careful you don't fall on something and get whacked. Sounds like your body wants some "lay down and chill" time, but that you aren't complying. Any chance you can do that for a day or so (nap anyone?) as well as make sure you are hydrated and fueled?

Hopefully that gets you right. If not, after additional rest and continued issues, I'd head over to see your primary!

    Keep us posted!
