HR on bike

I did a 'big day' last Saturday and I think that I went too slowly on the bike leg.  I only have HR #s (no PM) and that is how I plan to race IMLP.  Honestly I'm worried about making the bike cutoff if I bike this slowly race day!

The ride was 3:45 for 55 miles.  My zone 1 HR is <128: zone 2 129-137.</p>

First 30 min HR avg: 98bpm

Overall ride HR avg: 125bpm

avg speed 13.75mph

FWIW, I had a really tough time slowing down on the run even with sore legs from running earlier in the week.  So no problem keeping pace there.

I'm thinking that I should aim for closer to top of zone 2 to hold my HR at rather than zone 1.  I did spike the HR on the hills even in my lowest gear really thinking about 'going easy'.  I have the race sim coming up in a few weeks and want to try to get things sorted out as far as pacing and making sure it's ok to go a bit harder.

  •  As a practical matter, if you do not make the bike cutoff it does not really matter if you can't run.  What is the bike cutoff, 9:30 race time right.  How fast can you swim?  Was the course you rode similar to LP?  If so that seems like enough speed to make the cutoff?  Are you doing the race sim on the course?  Sounds like that would be a really good plan.
