Patterson IM South Africa 2017 Macro
I'm just going back from maintenance mode. I'll be training through the winter. I completed IM Louisville in 2015 with Endurance Nation. I'm doing the Chicago Triathlon Sprint as a "C" race at the end of August 2016. I'm assuming my training for IM South Africa will start around 9/1. The race is on 4/2/17. My problem or dilemma is the selection of a suitable 70.3 "B" rehearsal race. I was looking at IM Panama 70.3 (which hasn't opened yet) but is anticipated around 1/29/17. However, since it hasn't opened (might be canceled?), I was also looking at the 70.3 in Havana, Cuba on Saturday 2/25. That seems late for a "rehearsal" prior to an early April IM. Thoughts? I want to make my selections and submit a TSR.

I ran IMSA in 2016. If there is anything at all I can provide to you in terms of info for your prep let me know. Also, at your convenience, kindly let me know if you have your housing sorted. I have not committed to this race yet this year; however, if I do go back I would hands down go back to the same place (via AirBnB) I did this year. My host was incredible. She did everything for me but run the race. (And I think if I would have asked her she would have)!! Very affordable, great relaxed location, and a 1400 meter walk to the village.
I'll be back home (Chicago) for a brief holiday if you want to get together and chat over a drink (sorry not a coffee guy)!!
Best of luck.
I'd love to talk to you about your IM SA experience. Right now i'm tentatively booked at the Radisson Blu. I'm open to other options though. James
Thanks Paul, I'm going to look into the HITS race in Naples. I might settle for the half distance aquabike. I'm good missing the run, but I do want to use this race as an opportunity to get a good rehearsal on the swim and bike. Great input, though. I'll look into Clermont too. Just not sure if that will work with my schedule and budget.
James, I sent you a PM with my contact info.
Also, EN preaches that a HIM is a poor rehearsal for an IM. The challenges we face and mistakes we (may)make express themselves very differently over a 180K ride and a 43K run. The same cannot be said for the HIM. There is nothing wrong with training for/completing a HIM during your season on the way to an IM. Just make sure you space it out (preferably) 8+ weeks prior to your IM. As your HIM slides < 8 weeks to your IM you start to effect critical downstream workouts in the IM race prep phase
James, yes, please use that plan. Be smart and if it appears to be too much (ie, too much running frequency) then we can make adjustments to that.
