2 HIM's in a Weekend

Hey Coach,

Hope you’re doing well.  I recently read your training update and it sounds like you’re on a great path through LP and onto Kona!

I’m considering signing up for a local race weekend called Incredoubleman.  It’s a half distance tri on Saturday followed by a half distance tri on Sunday.  Race weekend is 9/10 – 9/11.

I was wondering what type of plan you feel I should load up to train for that weekend.   I realize I won’t have a full race build leading up to those races but my fitness ain’t too bad right now and this would be one of those "having fun with my fitness" type things.  Any advice or recommendations you can provide would be great.  Thank you for your help.

  • What training plan are you in now? Whether you in the HIM or IM plan, I don't think it really matters. IMO, this weekend is more about successful pacing vs being in HIM or IM fit.

Unless this is an A-race for you...in which case it might be better to do the IM plan, as mo' endurance would be mo' bettah
  • Thanks for the reply. Not really following a plan at the moment. Just getting in a few rides/swims each week of varying volume/intensity and running every day RDP style. It's not an A race so I'll just plug in the HIM plan and maybe do a camp weekend about the same distance out from the race as the IM plan calls for. Thank you!
  • It's two, fun, back to back training days with SBR and needs to be treated as such.  Day one, you are thinking about what you need to do to complete training day two vs. trying to blow out a PR on day one.

Have fun, stay safe, take down a few AGs along the way..........
