Naomi Gilker: Advice for wk 17 of HIM plan
Coach P,
I'm in week 17 of the Intermediate HIM plan and will be doing a sprint tri on Saturday. I'm moving my Thursday run to tomorrow evening (Tuesday) and will likely do my Tuesday run tonight (Monday) or on Wednesday. Because I have a work commitment Thursday evening and will be leaving straight away after swim practice on Friday (Ardara (Donegal) is approx. a 4-4.5hour drive from Dublin) for the race venue, I'm front loading my week to reduce the amount of sessions I miss - would you agree with that? Furthermore, what should I try to squeeze in over the weekend post race? I'll have Saturday after the race, Sunday and Monday morning to do some cycling but the roads in Co. Donegal aren't the greatest. Would reducing the duration and increasing the intensity be an option? I know wk 17 includes a bike-test but I'm not doing that as I do not have the gear nor the technology to do so; therefore, Wednesday will simply be a regular morning ride for me.
My main concern here is missing too much time-on-the-bike over the weekend.
Grateful for any suggestions & advice you can provide.
Thanks,
Naomi

I think your overall plan is pretty sound. No way we want you to jeopardize things by forcing workouts in less than ideal conditions. You got your long run in and get your FTP ride in, after that you have a great weekend. I would rather make up bag volume on the other side with a longer Saturday Sunday next weekend then try and cram things in this week. Sound good?
