Shoes For Extra Sweaty Feet

I don't know if sweat more than average or not. However my last two 70.3s and pretty much every run I do over 7 miles My shoes start squishing due to sweat (loud and annoying, but not causing any other problems) I've tried various sweat wicking socks (Defeet, Feetures, Swiftwick, etc...) and many different shoes (Nike Zoom Pegasus, Brooks Pure Cadence, Brooks Adrenaline GTS, Hoka One One Bondi for a few) but always the same problem with squishy shoes on longer runs--even in winter. Sad, right?

Anybody have a recommendation for a shoe (Preferably with some cushion) that might either shed sweat a little better or at least handle it quietly? I'm in the market for a few new pairs in the next month or so. Thanks in advance.

  • OMG, I was just going to post something similar! Here in North TX, humidity - and the associated sweating - can be relentless.
I'm going "squishy" with every foot strike within the first few miles of all my runs lately.

I was wondering if you could drill drainage holes in shoes (like the ol K-swiss shoes used to have already) to allow it somewhere to go? Or something like old school head/sweatbands at your ankles to prevent it all from running down into your shoes?

I've been lucky and haven't had any blisters yet, but it's getting to that point that I cannot control the moisture, it'll happen soon enough.
  • I have no idea if this would work. At the hospital, when ladies have sweaty skin fold issues, we apply roll on antiperspirant. Works like a champ. Not sure if it would help with the volume of liquid you guys are talking about.

  • @Scott, glad to know I'm not suffering alone... Perhaps we should join forces and start a business manufacturing sweat repellent shoes?

@Jacklyn, I'm certain this the first time in my life that I've been compared to "ladies with sweaty skin fold issues"  I'm not confident that any amount of antiperspirant will hold back torrents at the levels we're talking about here? I will give it a try though and report back if successful.

  • I wear Newtons and they are made of a very open upper fabric that breathes and dries out well. My feet don't sweat excessively, but I do run a lot in the rain and it has to be raining really hard before they get squishy sounding.

  • I have the same problem. I run down here in Panama City Beach and within minutes my feet are soaked. I wear the Brooks Ghost 8's and by the time I take them off they are as heavy as bricks. I've considered going back to the New balance Minimalist shoe. If I find a shoe I'll be sure to let y'all know
  • Thanks all, sounds like this is likely just one of those I will have to live with. I may pocket an extra pair of socks (or two) for my next IM run--it'll be worth the time lost to eliminate the distraction. @mark I was thinking I might try Newtons this go round since I've never worn them before. Hopefully, will make a diff.

    Best,

    Dave
