Xterra Cameron Park (Waco) TX

Anyone ever done this race? It's NEXT weekend, 8/13/16. (http://racerevolutions.com/events/x...-distances)

It's a 1.5k swim (I cannot imagine this to be wetsuit-legal), 24k bike (~15 miles) and a 10k (trail) run.

I haven't swam a whole lot lately (never swim enough), so I'll see how my sprint tri (800m swim) goes this weekend before I decide, but I want to know how difficult it is overall.

I've never done an off-road/xterra race before, but am decently skilled on a MTB (nothing too serious here in TX, and I've never been on these specific trails) and am sporting some great personal fitness markers, and have been doing quite a bit of running - on and off road. I'm thinking I might want to make a go of it.

Experience/opinions?

  • Scott - 2000-2008, I did a LOT of Xterras. They were always fun, and often humbling. Though I had years of experience mountain biking here in the Pac NW, I never did learn how to *race* an Fat Tires, but that didn't get in the way of having a good time (experience). I will note that many Xterrans are TERRIBLE swimmers, and I often found myself near the FOP with people trying to get round me on uphill single track. I wasn't very generous with space, mumbling, "You shoulda swum faster, dude."
