Should I test my FTP this saturday

I have not tested my FTP in a long time and I was wondering if I should do it this saturday or not. I start my 12 training for timberman next week, I am running a 1/2 on Sunday with no time goal other than to finish. So given those 2 factors Test or No Test.

Thanks

    Come on up!

  • Steve, when's the first test in the plan? If it's soon, skip it. If not, hey, go for it!

  • Mike don't try to use logic on me it will never work! I just checked the first 2 weeks and no testing. So I will see how the legs and mind feel and maybe go for it. And Michelle said she would chase me, of course I may want to be caught.

  • Du or du not. There is no Tri.
  • Steve,

You could always do the TT on Wed night and use that as your FTP test.

  • @dave, I thought about that but they are not long enough, unless you think that I could still base it off that. And its good you point them out again as I thought they were on tuesday nights this year and was not going to be able to make them.

  • How long is the TT? That sounds like a great option if it's long enough.
  • 11.4 miles,  I would need about 3 more miles + some distance for the 2 minute easy. I know it would be pretty accurate as it is all out for those miles and I do love doing them they made me faster last year.

  • Sounds like an awesome weekly workout! But yeah, probably too short to call it an FTT. Getting Michele to chase you should help though! :-) If you are psyched up to test- go test!
  • Steve, I do a weekly TT of a very similar distance. For me, I can knock a little more than 5% off my watts in that TT and get pretty close to my FTP. If you do the test this weekend, and then to the TT on Wed, you'll have a pretty good comparison, and then maybe just do the TT on a regular basis (more fun, see people, less pressure), without feeling like you have to test this summer.

Lots of ways to skin a cat...
  • Steve,

FWIW, I'll be using the TT as my FT test.  I've done it all different ways and it all shakes out.

I've done plenty of trainer 2x20's, on the road 2x20', a 1 hour TT, indoor TTs of shorter distances, etc.

If you want to use the TT, multiply you pnrom by .95 and you should be good.

Hope to see you Wed night.

    Dave
