Coach Rich's 2017 Epic Year of Awesomeness
2015 = 110% all-in effort to get back to Kona via IM Wisconsin. Successful day, coming in <2' off my '02 time, when I was 34 vs 47 last year <img alt="" src="http://members.endurancenation.us/DesktopModules/ActiveForums/themes/_default/emoticons/cool.gif" />. But at a pretty big mental cost.
2016 = pretty meh as I work through a leg injury, lots of personal changes, etc in route to a "participatory experience" at Kona in October.
2018 = I age up to 50yo = already accumulating a list of Stoopid Fit Tricks I want to do to celebrate a half century, primary of which will be to push all of my chips into the center of the table again for a bottom of the AG Ironman performance.
2017 therefore = the year of Epically Cool and Fun Shit!
The Short List, in roughly chronological order:
- Learn how to ski
- Everest (29k gain in one day) on Chantry Flats in Sierra Madre
- Adam's Crazy Ass Ride -- a local route that some knucleheads and I did back in the day, 135mi and 16k gain.
- Mulholland Challenge
- Retain my KOM at an organized century near San Luis Obispo. I got the KOM last year by accident on my road bike, want to bring the Ventum out there and firmly claim it, on purpose.
- Blue Ridge Camp: bring the Westcoast Pain to the Eastcoast
- Tour of California
- Al's Aspen Camp
- Qualifier for Leadville
- Leadville
- While I'm in CO...see if I can get some moto buddies to join me on the Colorado Backcountry Discover Route
- Maybe put together a 4-person team of ringers for the HooDoo 500?
- Organize a mtn biking / dirt biking weekend in Moab in late September or early October
That's the short list . Any resources or tips for any of the above?

I was already calling 2017 my "Year of Epic $h!t"!
Mine include mostly events to get me to Leadville 100 MTB and to do well there, but also lots of travel including Mallorca Spain, Belgium, Germany, Czech and Austria.
You should try the Triple Bypass, or even the DOUBLE triple bypass, on your way to Leadville. Lots of climbing as well as altitude training!
I'd bet you, me, Jeremy and P could set a new record on the 4-man at HooDoo...
No races but will maintain 4 x 4mi /wk. Maybe check out that track session at Arcadia HS
