Disc wheel travel

What advice does anyone have regarding traveling with a disc wheel? I raced IMCDA and brought my brand new disc wheel. I traveled with my Scion case, obviously not a hard case, and was worried sick my wheel would get damaged. And sure enough, I see a dent in the wheel when I got home. Ugh! Short of buying a hard case or not bringing my disc wheel, what can I do better?

On a related matter, is there a way to repair my wheel?

    I don't have a disc but I do have a Scion case and I have added a thick piece of cardboard cut into a round shape to fit the wheel pocket on the outside of the wheel and my wheels have been fine.

    I have a disk. I never pack it with the bike. The bike travels with ZiPP 404's and the disk travels solo in double wheel bag. No issue yet... But I also use Tri-Bike Transport. I have never placed my racing rig on a airplane.
