Running Awards

It seems that I have been assigned the position of CFO, Chief Fitness Officer, at my company. For the past 2 years I have organized a team to compete in a Ragnar Relay. I would like to start handing out a few awards each year to thank people for participating and too keep people interested in maintaining their fitness the rest of the year.

One of the awards I would like to hand out is "Most Improved". I just don't know how to determine this award. Most increased miles, best improved pace, etc. I was wondering if anyone in the haus has had to do something like this before and might be able to share their ideas.

Thanks,

Pete

  • How my wifes club does it is they benchmark from year to year so if you ran a 24 minute 5k  and this year you 22 minutes well that is x% better and if percentage wise you are best you win.

  • The problem is that I don't have that benchmark. Not everyone runs the same distance. So I would need some way to compare say a 5K to a 10K run, or even worse a 3.4 mile run to a 7.8 mile run. Right now I have total miles and average pace.
  • How many folks participate? I think it might be easier to honor everyone who does play along than just pick one winner. I have found that fun contests that everyone can play in regardless of ability do better than "fastest" or "longest", etc. Perhaps recognizing longest running participants (as in years playing along), or most improved body composition (that could get ugly!), best outfit? Maybe folks who participate can "vote" for each other via ballot: best performance? mental toughness? etc.

    Keep us posted!
