compact crank

 Alright, I just bought a new compact crank off of ebay for $50.  When it comes, about how many links should come out of the chain would you say?  And I know I have to adjust the height of my front dérailleur I can figure that out, but the chain length is always a concern because I'm never sure what it should be.  Thanks.

 I have swapped back and forth from compact to regular lots of times without changing the chain length at all.  Does not seem to matter that much.

 Thanks Chris.  I'll try it.  Any tell tale signs that it isn't working?  Slower shifting? or not as accurate?  Also, why do you switch so often? Just curious?  Thanks!
