What should I do for my bike setup

So I bought a stages power meter and I am kinda frustrated by it right now but since I can't change anything right now I need some help.

I bought a new bike, new power meter and I bought a new aero bottle holder which has the computer mount for my Garmin 520 in front of the bottle. I liked that setup as it was right in my face and I could really watch what I was doing while riding aero. I was noticing a bunch of drop outs on the power and thought maybe I was doing something wrong so I contacted Stages and they stated it's a known issue with the aero bottle in the way and the Garmin 520 and they are working on it to resolve it. GRRRRRRR wish I had known that before hand.

They stated mount in on the stem and see if that helps. I did and it did help perfect BUT with my aero bottle in place I cannot see the computer!!!!!

So do I run without the Aero bottle so I can see the computer or do I mount it back on the aero bottle and deal with the drop outs.

IMMD in less than 5 weeks so need to figure out.

  • Steve, Heather ran the very original Stages on her Blue/Garmin 500 for 4 years and it was bullet proof... She purchased a new TREK SC ,Stages , and Garmin 520, we then proceeded to get the dropouts , I swapped PM's, headsets, back and forth between bikes until I was blue in the face.... Calls and emails to STAGES/GARMIN , lots of internet reading.... Bottomline is its a line of sight issue (her's would not go thru the TREK SC base bar but worked perfectly in the Bento Box) none of our solutions were acceptable ... She got STAGES to refund 100% even after the return date and went with P1 pedals....
  • Thanks Tim I will work with my LBS who I purchased it all from and see what we can do.

How does she like the P1 pedals?

  • P1 pedals are nice... I just got a pair as well...
  • Steve,
If the return doesn't work out maybe try an aero bottle that has the computer mount on top of the bottle, which gets it a little closer. I also heard it's a distance problem, meaning if the head unit is too far away you get drop outs. I know two people with stages and a Garmin 920 on their wrist. The shorter person has no problems but the taller guy (6'3") gets drop outs. Stages told him to move the head unit closer to the cranks, which couldn't work for him.
