Can't download data from new PowerTap

So I figured out most of the strange world of configuring the little yellow computer for the first time and did my first 90 minute ride with Power.  I thought the easy part would be to download the file to either Power Agent or WKO+ Device Agent. Not so.  I did all the things the FAQ told me to -- ensure the driver for the USB is the latest, try different USB ports, ensure that the device says "host." and clicks in tightly.  I also made sure the Firmware is the latest - and it is -- 7.6.  I also have the latest Power Agent software - 7.5.  I can call Saris Curstomer Support but they probably aren't there until Tuesday given the holiday. I want to ride with Power before then! So if anyone has any other tips/advice before then, please let me know.

  • In Device Agent, have you tried selecting another Port (COM 1, COM 3, COM 5, etc) from the drop down list? That's usually the problem for most first timers.

What (if any) error are you getting?

In Power Agent, the error message is "no supporting devices were found" when I try to configure device or download data. In Device Agent "An error occurred while trying to download from CycleOps Power Tap." I think the fundamental problem is that the device is not configured. I saw in the online manual the beautiful chart that comes up for a configured device with settings, serial numbers, etc. I'v never gotten to that stage yet. Thanks, Nemo.
  • Scott,
When my power tap was new, I often thought I had it seated int he cradle properly. It even said "host". It took several freakishly hard pushes to get contact for downloading. Now I have no problems, but I think the new ones are tight fitting and not making contact even when it says "host".
  • Hmm Thanks Michelle. I'll have to try that! Scott
  • So Michelle and Nemo,  It worked to mash the computer further down the cradle.  Though it was showing "host" it was not pushed down far enough.  Got my first data set and am happily analyzing!  Thanks to you both!

  • I had the same issue when I got my new PT computer!

    YEAHHHHHH!!!  Success!

  •  Glad that it worked out.  I was betting on the having to try different usb ports as I read through the posts.
