TriRig Omega X vs Ultegra Brakes for Felt IA16.

I was looking to upgrade my front and rear brakes on my Felt IA16.  Searching the web I noticed a lot of talk about the TriRig Omega X.  My initial thought was to just get Ultegra brakes for both the front and rear.  I would be using them with Flo Carbon Clinchers.

Does anyone have any thoughts on if the Omega X are worth the extra money?  The feel and stopping power are more important to me than aero benefits.   Another thought would be to get a Omega X front and Ultegra rear to get the aero benefit.  My one concern with that combo is that the brakes would feel different.  One set of Ultegra brakes  are less than the cost of one Omega X.

Thanks for any input.

  • I have the omega (before the omega x) and love them. one con: They are aluminium and oxydation will get through the paint, but it's just cosmetic. A massive pro for the Felt IA is that it that U can use Stages PM with the Omega rear break (Apparently, U can't with other side pull rear brake as the cable will touch the Stages PM). But I agree the cost is just mind blowing
  • On my cannondale old slice, i have trrig front and shmimano back. Works great. No feel problems.
  • I have the tririg front and stock 105 rear on my ia10. Feel of the front brake is fine even with carbon rims. The mechanism gets a little sticky from drips from my bta bottle but it's easy to clean. I think from reading a thread on slow twitch the tririg brake ( and stock ia10 front brake) is a definite aero advantage over the stock front brake on an ia16, but the worth of that in terms of dollars spent is a personal decision for sure. If you are interested I could sell my stock never used ia10 front brake.
  • I looked at the TriRig for my Felt IA10 but opted against it ... I know there's supposed to be an aero advantage but it just seems so minimal unless you're always riding over 40 kph. I put that money into the wheels.

Stopping power was a very important factor for me, and I went with the Jet Black over the Flo. I notice a huge difference compared to my older all-carbon Reynolds wheels.
