troubleshooting TrainerRoad

Hi all,

I'm hoping that the collective wisdom can help me out with what is probably something really simple, but it escapes me at the moment and I'm unable to get the ANT+ devices to pair with TR on my laptop.

- Laptop (MacBook Pro) only purchased a month ago;

- I'm using the Garmin bike and cadence sensor like these https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/shop-by-accessories/fitness-sensors/bike-speed-sensor-and-cadence-sensor/prod146897.html with new batteries.

- I have a USB key both a Suunto and a Garmin and neither work.

- I disabled Garmin Express on the laptop.

-I've tried reading the instructions on the TR website and even googling/You tube to figure it out, but I'm just losing patience now. Like I said, it's probably something so easy and obvious but I just can't figure it out.

Please help!

  • Hi! I had trouble getting TrainerRoad set up in the beginning, too--trying now to remember what worked! If I remember right, different ANT+ sticks reach different distances, and I think it's possible to get some kind of extension... I do remember at one point I had to have the computer basically right next to the device I was connecting to in order to get it to work--if you haven't experimented with that yet, it's worth a shot. I also remember the TR support guys being genuinely helpful, so if you haven't reached out to them yet, I'd also try that.

    In the end, I wound up upgrading to a Wahoo Kickr, a newer ANT+ stick (http://bit.ly/2cTF11U) and switching to Zwift, but that's a whole other story. ;-)
  • Make sure you have really quit Garmin Express and make sure it is not running in background. Do not open TR until you have quit Garmin Express. Also, be sure you have the cadence sensor and speed sensor separate on the device pairing.
  • Pairing the speed and cadence sensors separately seems to have done the trick. Thanks!
